Ok I received a job offer today to work in Needham. I currently reside in South Florida and if i'm able to get past the whole snow and winters thing I may take this job. I know there is a state tax of around 7.5%
. I am also wondering if there are any local taxes like for each county? And do you have yearly car inspections? I only have an HKS exhaust and read a thread that I should be ok with that. Any other information you guys can give me about Mass and around the Boston area would be appreciated. I know cost of living will be higher then Florida. Thanks in advance and here is a picture of my Z that will be coming with me if I move up there.

I live about 3 towns away from needham and work for a company in Needham. We do have yearly inspections which i am sure of us here could help you out with if it becomes an issue. Its prob about 3x more expensive to live up here.
State Sales Tax is 5%. For now anyway. Don't think there are any "county" taxes, but there are property taxes, and Excise tax you pay each year $15 for every $1000 I think. I Inspections are done once a year, $30 each as of now, tho I went 3 years in my last car without getting it done. <- Not recommended. Registration for the car is required every 2 years, and costs around $40.

The good thing about Boston is that you get all four seasons. Though they're not always in order. The economy is pretty decent around here. Housing prices have not gone down that much.

Cost of living isnt that much different from where you currently live now. But living in the Northeast you are able to make a higher income vs the South. Winter here in Mass is pretty bad. Unlike normal states who actually have state, city and town trucks (Large Construction Style Trucks) that are there to ensure the roads are clean and clear, this isnt the case in Mass. They hire private trucks (read Old Pick-up Trucks mostly) to clean the roads, and since there are so few trucks doing it, the job they are able to do is horrible. I highly advise buying something 4x4.
Nice ride btw

I went to school in Boston and all I have to say is... don't park your car on the street (I had to take a gamble with that when I first bought my Z, but luckily nothing happened to it, but I have heard of horror stories from other people) and beware of M@sshole drivers. The Pike and Storrow Drive can get pretty messy sometimes.

Thanks for all the info guys. From what i've seen renting an apartment is gonna be more expensive compared to down here. Anyone know a good place in Needham or close to look at? From what i've seen from the little research i've done its cheap apartment is like 9xx a month which i'm guessing is in a bad neighborhood. Alot of prices seem to be in the 14xx a month. I'm hoping to find a place where i can get a garage and def would like a wash/dryer in the unit. Seen a few that don't have this. Right now i'm paying 600 a month for everything inc water/elect/cable/internet and a maid lol.

Not sure about Needham-
But, I lived in Kenmore Square (Across from the Citgo Sign) for 2 years. My roommate and I were paying about $2300 a month. But, I loved where I lived, less when the sox were playing and the m*******s were all getting off at Charlesgate from Storrow.
It's a fun place, but I can't imagine having a car there. In the 3 years I lived in Boston, I only found myself needing a car when I was moving to a different place. Or, I was lazy and shopping, in which case a taxi sufficed.
Anyhow- gl, you're Z is going to need it. -read- you'll need another car.

You wont find a single appt anywhere surrounding for less than 1000-1200 a month for rent and heat. If you have a budget of 600, you better start looking for a roommate or someone who is renting out a room in their house. The is a very expensive section of the country to live in. What company are u going to be working for?
The job is with General Dynamics.

The sales tax there is 8.5% correct?
Right now my commute is 45 mins to work trying not for longer then that. I'm willing to travel depending on the deal I can get on a place to live. But not gonna travel farther if i can get a similar place closer for around the same amount. Right now just a 1 bedroom I'm thinking, I wouldn't mind having a roommate but it would def have to be a person that i can trust, had to many problems with roommates in the past. Already know I need a 2nd car, my mom has a 01 Acura CL she needs to sell so I may just help her out and buy that use that as a daily driver, was already thinking of doing that down here.

Also, when commuting, you want to go away from Boston in the morning and towards Boston at the end of the day. Much less traffic that way.

Not that you'll be able to save lots of money in doing so but you could always look at towns that are 20-30 miles south of boston. The prices are a bit Cheaper.
You can check out:
Attleboro
North Attleboro
Plainville
Foxboro(Patriots home town)
Mansfield
These would put you around the 45 minute travel mark with traffic. Some days may hit more traffic and take a bit more.
Or to get closer to Needham but still to the south you can look into:
Norwood
Stoughton
Canton
Walpole
Westwood
These will be a bit more expensive because they are closer to the city.
Like everyone said though, you will not find anything nice for 600 a month.
For something that we would consider nice, you should stay with 1200+ a month.

Thanks I'll check out some of those places. Yeah the 600 a month thing is a great deal even here in Florida. I mean moving anywhere and that will be almost impossible to match. If I were to get a one bedroom here in florida i'd be looking at 1000-1200 a month also so its not that big of a difference.
