Default speeding ticket in nyc HELP!

hey guys, i was an idiot and decided to push the car a little on the highway (it was 1am very little cars) and probably went about 100 then slowed down to 80 when a cop pulled me over (going 80) and said he clocked me going 100 (speed limit being 50).

I know im probably screwed but does anyone have any advice for me or a good lawyer you can recommend? this is my first offense so i dont know how this goes.

I looked online and found this guy... http://www.notspeeding.com/ is he any good? anyone have any experience with him? thanks in advance.

I would recommend asking people at local meets for the name of a good lawyer who won't screw you over.

Your lucky he only wrote you up for 80. Double the speed limit and you would have been royally screwed. Worst case is your found guilty, you pay the fine, points on your insurance. Try not to freak. Good luck.

+1 find a lawyer in your area who deals specifically with traffic citations; the tiny ********, not DUI's and hardcore jailtime offenses. Tell him your story, be honest with him and ask him if he can write a letter to the clerk or DA. Normally he writes up a letter saying "let me guy go and ill use his lawyers fees to get us some drinks at the bar." NORMALLY it works, and they drop it to a nonmoving violation like parking in an intersection or something obviously dumb.

the lawyer shouldnt cost more than a couple hundred dollars, but even if it costs 1k, its better than your insurance getting jacked up and having a speeding ticket on your record.

Hope this helps, anymore questions, send me a PM. fight it

Ooops, looks like I read your post wrong. If he did nail you for 101, then I would not think twice at hiring a lawyer. I am not sure of the laws in your state, but in MA, I think its a license suspension and fines for double the speed limit. Your lucky he didn't tow your car.

I'm a little north of you by about an 1.5 hours, a guy by the name of Michael King did took care of a couple tickets for us. He was a lil pricy, but he is one mean SOB to the courts, ended up dropping everything (4 tickets during one stop).

Was it a statey or a local, statey's can't bargain any more, but locals.... well you can play their game of bargaining if your respectful.

Third option is, two days before the court date, call the court and ask them to reschedule it, chances are the officer won't be working during the time of court. Now NYC has slightly different laws but, if you can find a way to ask for an 1110 Traffic Infraction, then you'll pay a fine and be on your way with no points. Just a couple options, but seriously check some of the local attorneys as they might be much cheaper.

Hopefully that helps you out a bit, but like mentioned above, try not to freak worst case you got some points, and a fine, which defensive driving can remove up to 4point in NYS.

51 mph over the posted speed limit.....you're starting at 11 points before you go to your hearing.......lucky they didn't write you a reckless driving summons and impound your car along with the speeding ticket...good luck

Man I thought I remember hearing 100+ you go to jail in Florida, or maybe that has not started yet.

Your one lucky SOB that your car did not get towed. A good layer might be able to drop it down some.

there are a couple of stretches on the West Side Highway where the roads are actually pretty decent. When coming from Jersey, when merging onto the Henry Hudson is fairly smooth, til about 140th street. After that, the next good stretch is from 79st boat basin all the way to first light.

West Side North Bound is a little trickier, but its real easy to get up to 100mph on certain sections. Forget about doing that on the FDR, not enough straights.

Goodluck...although I don't know why you wanna drive 100 mph in NYC unless you want to destroy your car.

I got a ticket for going "90 mph" in a 50 on the belt parkway. How did the pig determine it was 90 mph exact on the dot and not 87 or 93? I'm really interested to hear how this works without use of a radar gun, he was trailing me from behind for about a mile and I didn't notice until he was tailgating me, at which point I decide I'm gonna speed up and switch lanes to let whoever it is, pass me. I figured I was going around 70-something tops at times, but definitely not 90 as there was moderate traffic-this was around 9:30 PM so I wouldn't have much room to maneuver at that speed with cars ahead of me and in the other lanes. It was dark out no way for me to tell it was a cop. So after about a mile the lights start flashing and so I pull off the highway. A good 20 min later a ticket for going 90 mph and another one for failure to signal on a lane change.

This was back in early June, hired a lawyer the same week for $500, so my court date is December 1st.

For the most part I was traveling the speed of traffic, doing a little spirited driving maybe a bit faster at times, nothing outrageously wreckless but obviously I stand out so naturally the pigs are going to target me. Lesson? Don't go speeding at night unless you have a radar detector cause theres no way to tell who's behind you...

Get a lawyer, regardless of the speed... I got a 100 in a 55 and a wreckless driving, got a lawyer and left with failure to obey a traffic device (Spedometer)... Police in the state of NY are trained to measure speed based on sight, radar is only to confirm speed.
