Default Coventry, PA - Teen Driver Killed in Crash

Just a heads-up to my southeast PA brethren. Anybody know this guy?

http://www.dailylocal.com/articles/2...3817503221.txt

********************************
NORTH COVENTRY — A teen driver from Phoenixville was killed and his passenger injured Sunday night along Route 422 near Route 724, police said.

Nicholas Bierer, 19, was driving a 2006 Nissan 350Z east on Route 422 about 7:52 p.m., and witnesses told police the car was moving at an “excessive speed,” a police report says.

As the Nissan approached a left curve in the road near the interchange with Route 724, the car struck a guardrail and flipped down onto the on-ramp leading from Route 724 to Route 422 east, police said.

Bierer was ejected from vehicle during the crash, police said.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Water I. Hofman said Bierer had multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.

Bierer’s passenger, Kevin Thompson, 19, also of Phoenixville, was not ejected in the crash and was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment, police said. Thompson was later released from the hospital, police said.

Police closed the road for 2½ hours to investigate the crash.

Assisting were Lower Pottsgrove and West Pottsgrove police, Norco Fire Company, Goodwill Ambulance and fire police.
********************************

Be careful out there.

Indeed. I was out driving a little later that same night farther south/west in the same county and we had torrential downpour conditions. Easily had to slow my roll from 70 to 35-40 mph just to have visibility (with the wipers on full speed). I'm wondering if it was raining when this happened, what type / condition were his tires, was the Z equipped with TCS / VDC, etc etc.

Well weather could be a contributing factor but you can always slow down

Did he even wear his seat belt? Wonder how he got ejected out of the car? Through the window...out of the front wind shield? Whatever it is, my condolences to his family.

Picture from the scene of the crash:

Hate to say it but my guess is he most likely would have lived if he was wearing a seatbelt. His passenger was released from the hospital that night. I know that im still here thanks to seatbelts

No matter what the cause was, it's sad to see someone lose their life. RIP.

Speed & poor road conditions I'm sure were the main causes of this crash. With all the rain we have been seeing, there has been a lot of standing water on road surfaces which may have caused hydroplaning/loss of traction.

Always wear your seatbelt!.. I have been involved in multiple crashes that could have been fatal. Each time I walked away without a bruise. The vehicle on the other hand, usually had to be hauled away on a flatbed. Some of us are lucky enough to walk away from youth's stupidity and other's are not. Glad I survived my teens & early 20's.

My condolences to the family.

My wife just gave me the heads up about this. I live less than a minute from there and drive a black 06. I'd seen the smashed guardrail on Monday morning but didn't realize what had happened. There's construction at that ramp so assumed it was something to do with that.

My first thoughts this evening were that it was sry110 since I knew he was from Phoenixville direction - glad to see you're OK man...

Davy.

Thanks man. Definitely one of those sobering reality checks.

I don't even drive my z in the rain because of something like this....inexperienced driver + road conditions + overpowered RWD vehicle + no seat belt = death

I've seen this happen often enough to know this type of thing is not uncommon...be safe out there..if its dry outside and your not a nub at driving, you can let it out, otherwise...slow and steady...
