Default Watkins Glen opens May 2nd

I just saw a post on zcar.com that indicated that there is a 3 lap event open to all. You get 3 laps at the Glen for $15 on May 2nd. I asked for more details to see what was included and if there was a pre registration requirement.

Anyone interested in getting their car out on the track? Visit their website www.zccr.net for more info.

That's some pretty weak track time. So what if you want to drive all day there? Hell, 3 laps is nothing more than heating up your tires, and a driver needs some more time to get in the track mentality than that. The Glen is a place you can't afford to screw up at... there is no run-off room, so it's just pavement, armco / foam, and the tire wall if you are driving the long course. Is this the long course of the NASCAR circuit?

CarGuys has an event there the Monday and Tuesday right after the 4th of July weekend. I went last year, and had over 4 hours of track time there. Lots of fun, so much that I could smell my differential fluid burning.

I don't think the intent was to race. It was an open invitation from a local Z group to welcome the new season and take a spin on the track. Did you really believe you could get any racing experience out of a $15 ride?

Yep, a good buddy of mine wrecked his Boxster S there. $20k+ in damage.

HPDEs are not races, and in fact, the Z only fits into a few categories for racing, which are all competitive and require good amounts of money to compete in.

That aside, if you do some research, you can go out to the Glen during other HPDEs and do touring laps during lunchtime for free... and you'll most likely get much more than 3 laps.
