Default Boston Area Z/G Dyno Day

Hi All,

I am trying to put together a Boston area dyno day at a local south shore place called Manny's Auto. He has a dynojet there for our use. We would like to do it Saturday July 31st starting at 9am. Since he is a local small business he needs to guarantee that he will have paying customers in order for him to stop work for the entire day. Because of this I need to guarantee him 13 cars will show up. If we can get that number we will get a rate of $50 for 3 pulls with A/F. Of course anyone can show up just for a meet. Manny's lot should be able to hold 20-25 cars.

The other stipulation is that you will need to pay up front through me for the dyno time and I need to leave him a deposit. This way if you don't show up it is your loss. This is because Manny needs to protect his earnings for that day since he runs the shop by himself and needs to cancel all other work. The deadline for letting him know would be the end of next week (7/16). Of course if plans fall through all funds will be returned.

If we can agree on this we will try to also do something while we're there like a BBQ and perhaps raffle again if I can get some help from the local folks. I also will try to approach some local businesses to donate to our event. Quirk nissan and some other shops are right near by.

Please reply here and PM me for payment instrucitons. Paypal would be the best and fastest solution. Its easy to sign up for and you can use a credit card. Hopefully a bunch of the local Z guys/gals can vouch for me. Don't worry I won't go buying mods with the dyno money Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I'm in. My only question is what happens if you get 35 cars that want to go? Where will they all park?

I'll post something tonight on the other forums.

Another option that Chris brought up is possibly having the shop take credit card numbers directly. We will still need the 13 cars but this might make it easier for people to pay. I will contact Manny tomorrow and see what he thinks of this.

Besides for the monetary reasons I think we need to keep it to the 13 cars just for time sake. We probably need to keep a running list here and do it on a first come first served basis. Those that wish to still show for the meet can still come and try to get in at the end of the day. If too many cars show there should be spill over room in the adjacent lot. Its for a hotel. We just won't tell them we're not staying there

No go on the credit card. He said that unless you want to go to the shop and swipe it he can not do someone new (never used a card at his shop) over the phone. Sorry guys thats the best I can do.

If I'm around I would go hang out for the day but I won't be dynoing my car so I don't know how much of a problem this would present as it sounds like it's a small place and the parking lot would only be only be able to handle cars that will be doing dyno runs.

I hope you get 13 cars but I think you will find it difficult for people to pay the total in advance. When we had our dyno meet in CT last year, a deposit was only asked to guarantee you a spot but other than that it was first come, first serve. If you wanted a guaranteed spot, you could leave a deposit of $20 on a credit card over the phone. I found out later that this $20 was never charged to anyone's card as this plan was just meant to guarantee you a spot. A few that did put deposits couldn't make it due to unforeseen emergencies and were appreciative that they were not charged. We ended up with at least 25 350Z/G35's there plus some other cars. Because we had 3 supercharged Z's getting tuned, we ended up getting 14 cars dynoed and there were at least another 6 or 7 that would've dynoed there cars if there was more time.

If you can't get the minimum 13 guarantees you need that would mean that this meet would not happen, right? That would be a shame.

If you can't get this done, let me know and if there is enough interest I could do another dyno day at XXTuning here in CT. I actually had set up a day in June but canceled it as I was too busy with other stuff.

Unfortunately its the best I can do. If we can't get the 13 cars looks like we won't go forward with the meet. Too bad because I know what you mean, it might be hard to get 13 people to pay ahead of time. I think part of it is that he is a small independant business, thus the need for upfront payment. The dyno prices are pretty good though.

BTW, Doesn't XX tuning use the kind of dyno where you take off your wheels? This is a dynojet at Manny's.

That's really too bad. What about hooking up with this dude during the business week for an hour or so?

I might just stop by on a weekend. I really can't do it during the week since I don't work near him. I have never done a dyno run so I wanted to check it out sometime anyway.

Are you free that day (7/31)? I have to call Manny back today or tomorrow anyway to tell him its off. I could just mention 2-3 of us will stop by and give him a time. His problem is he doesn't want to stop the whole days work and lose his income.

I am absolutely free that day, like I said I am in. This guy does know what he's doing right? How long has he had the Dyno?

I can't speak for how experienced he is. He said he's had the dyno for over a year and occasionally has guys from other clubs come down in small numbers. He mentioned some SRT guys and Mustang guys.

Another local Z guy mentioned that we might need some sort of low resistance clip for the rpm sensor??? I am new to dyno's so I am not sure how this plays in. I guess we'll find out. He is local so I guess it is not too much of a waste if it doesn't turn out perfect.

Should I tell him 1pm that saturday? I figure no need to get up early if we don't need to Hopefully he will be ok with just a couple of us coming so he can keep working after we're done. I guess there are advantages and disadvantages in dealing with a smaller local business...

1 PM is fine...even say 10:00 or 11:00, if that's not too early for you!

All I care about is that he knows what he is doing...the good thing is we are all Rear Wheel Drive b/c some dudes don't know how to deal with FWD...as far as that strap thing, I have no idea...I can post on G35Driver.com and find out though b/c tons of people have had their cars dynoed.

Are we still talking $50 for 3 pulls? Let me know.
