Default Considering relocation to Pacific NW (Seattle or Portland) need advice

Hi All,

I am considering a job that would be based in the Pacific NW and would like to get some input from some of the locals. It would be a home office based position and would be covering the entire Pacific NW.

I like both Seattle and Portland and would look into living in either city. I would like to start looking at housing costs in both cities to get an idea whether I even want to pursure this job.

I wouldn't want to actually live downtown, but would like to be in or near the city. I want something with a "neighborhood" feel. Somewhere I could maybe walk to bars, restaurants, Starbucks (probably not a problem in Seattle), grocery store, etc. I'm single, so somewhere somewhat exciting. I'd be looking for either a single family house or a rowhome style "urban" townhouse. I'm not really looking to be a pioneer, so I want an area that's already been gentrified. A garage is a must. Easy access to the airport is a plus. Price range would be under $350,000.

Any advice or recommendations? Neighborhood or town names that I could input into a real estate search would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

in Seattle:

West Seattle
Fremont (most likely candidate considering your preferences)
Ballard
Northgate
Greenlake (2nd most likely)

in Portland:

Beaverton (ever heard of Nike? They're HQ'd there)
Gresham (little out of the way, but very nice)
Lake Oswego (out of the way like Gresham, but again, very nice)

Thanks for the great info Z33Fan. I looked up some info on the neighborhoods you listed and Ballard or Fremont sound like exactly what I'm looking for.

I appreciate that. Actually, one of the factors in considering relocating to somewhere where I don't know anyone is the fact that I'll have my fellow Z owners to keep me company.
