Sorry if this is a repost --> I've seen this topic discussed before but couldn't find the local discussion of it.
I just completed the application form at http://www.safercar.gov/airbags/broc...tchRequest.PDF
to order the authorization from the NHTSA to have an airbag shutoff switch installed on the passenger side of my Z.
Has anyone recently had one installed in the Puget Sound area?
I'd like a good shop recommendation, and I'm also curious about the cost. I've heard it will be about $1,000.

Damn. I was told that the dealerships WOULD NOT install the switch. I paid $85 for instructions on how to disable them myself. I researched for about 6 months and could find nothing. My only option was to go down to Cali and pay $800 there. The instructions pretty much just told you where to find the plug and unplug it. Rip off, but my kid is able to ride in the Z now, so it was worth it. He also sells a chip that fools the car into thinking that the airbag is still connected so you don't have to see the blinking light all the time.
If you want instructions, let me know. They are in a PDF file.

The same with the 05's. I just got the instructions on how to disable them by unplugging the connector behind the dash. If I ever want it back on, I'll need to reconnect it and go through a reset sequence provided in the instructions.

You can install a switch, but I couldn't find anyone to do it for me and I really didn't want to play with it to try and figure out which wires to use while my face was 6 inches from the dashboard. Unplugging it was the quickest, easiest, safest and cheapest way to do it.

Just for the info, could you email it to me too? Thanks.
Just guessing, if you cut one or both wires put in a 2 pole switch there it would be the same as pulling the plug. I think that if you looked at the wiring diagram you could find which was hot, get a lighted switch so when it was off you would have a light to remind you.

I fount the manual and the PDF, there are 4 wires from the air bag to the brains. One is going in and one out for each level of deployment. I think that you could put a switch only in the "in" line of each level.
But, you can see that the brain needs to think that it is still connected and someone mentioned a "reset" being needed when you replug it. I can see that there is a "circuit" in the airbag that lets the brain knows its there. So when Ruining emails me his info, maybe there is a reasonable solution, I think a $1K bill is a bit of over kill.
