Default APEXi coilover install tomorrow, wish me luck!

It's time , they have been laying on the floor of my office for 2 months , time for some auto-x this weekend and I need these on, can anyone give me a word of advice or some wisdom, I have everything I need and pre-adjusted every part to desired ride height. I've done spring install myself so this may be easier but the adjustments are intimidating.

Oh well , learn by experience of doing it right?

If you've already figured out ride height, then I guess there's not much more to do at this point, right? I'd just set the dampening to the stock settings at first. See how it feels, and adjust accordingly. Which model did you get?

they are the APEXi N1 exv 32 way adjustable (counted last night by clicks) rears are 16 I think. I have the fronts at 160mm and the rear at 170mm gonna try that first, might be the same ride height I have now, thats what I'm going for anyway. Just needed some damping adjustments for track days. I measured ride height before several times on all 4 corners so I will be trying to duplicate that, not quite ready for camber kits.

Should be a quick install though, I am getting pumped about it now Maybe I should do a write up? Kind of a pic tutorial by trial and hopefully no error? bah, it would slow me down. nvm LOL

Well I was off by 1 mm on the right rear the driver side rear is right at where the Eibachs were before. I may still take it for alignment though but should be fine. Damn that was harder than I thought, I even had to go to napa and buy nuts and washers realized the guy I bought them from didn't include them

it's super easy to do the install...more of a PITA to change the height b/c you gotta jack up the car, take the wheels off...just takes some time to do it.

I took off the 2 plastic inteior panels next to the rear strut, and drilled some small holes just above the coilovers...that way I can adjust the rears for AutoX, then put them back to full soft for the street.

*Let me know if you need help...my wife is gone for most of tomorrow night, so I'll be getting the Z ready for this weekend and should have extra time.

HEY!!!!! Get off the computer and start enjoying and adjusting.
You always start "soft" then adjust up as needed.
The heavier the wheel and tire pkg the less rebound dampening you need.

LOL so... I'm done and now I have 32 levels of damping front and rear and so I took my car for a little test drive with everyones suggestion that I put it on the softest or lowest setting first then increase as needed. Well, all I can say is if you have a Z and even if you don't race GET SOME COIL OVERS because you can really go from one extreme to the other, I am thinking road trip now because that is a comfy ride! It felt like a brand new Cadillac

Anyone need Eibach pro-kit already mounted on front struts and rear springs? LOL

I almost called you for some help last night , I ran into a snag with 1 bolt at the bottom of mt pass. side strut (**** Les Schwab and their crappy torque wrenches) I had the cut the motherless son of a goat bolt off with the nut, only took 5 minutes but I was back at NAPA again getting another bolt and nut to replace it LOL. Dremel with reinforced cutting discs FTMFW!

Thanks

yeah, just let me know when. Installing coilovers are basically the same for any brand. My schedule is fairly busy, so you'll need to catch me at the right time...I probably won't be able to do the whole thing w/ you, but maybe just help w/ 1 so you know how to do the rest of them.

*I was amazed at the GG meet to see how many of us are modified...wonder if I should go back to stock to be unique

I wish my mods gave me that much of an advantage...it's much more about the driver! (If I hadn't already done some mods before deciding to do this AutoX season, I would have stayed stock and spent the time working on my dirving skills...but modding is just too much fun )

it'll be really great to see some other VQ's out there this weekend - I'm acustomed to seeing a sea of WRX's out there

You really should have the car aligned and more importantly get the car corner weighted. If you set all the ride heights the same front/rear and side/side then I can guarentee you that the corner weights are off. The car may feel like it handles well but you will be suprised at the difference corner weighting makes to the car.

At the track, if I take a passenger for a ride in my racecar, I can feel the difference that their weight makes on the handling (the car is corner weighted for just me in the car).
