Rentals?
Does anyone know where I might find a 350Z or G35 to rent for a couple of days. As a birthday present for my father, I'd told him I'd rent him a car from Hertz's fun collection, which I've since learned means a Mustang (how does that qualify as fun?) or a Corvette (way too much car, and close to $300/day when all is said and done) in the PNW. All the cars he'd really enjoy are down in CA.
He's been stuck driving a Ford Escape for years, and used K-Body for years before that. But he used to drive fun cars. X19, 280Z, Pulsar, 300ZX.
He's driven my RX-8 a couple of times, but it's not really his style.

Yeah, the Mustangs at Hertz defninitely aren't the GT's. They do have the Hertz special mustang, wich is basically a specially painted 350GT, but all indications are it's still not terribly fun to drive 'round corners.
park place rentals.... get him a ferrari or something... i know they had a 350z but i heard someone totalled it... not sure if they got a new or or even if theyre still renting but give it a shot

When I have been through this same process with customers that want to rent a certain type of car because they are thinking of buying it, I have leaned that it is very hard to commit a mainstream rental company to a specific car.
I think your plan to get your dad something nice to drive around on his birthday is an admirable thing. You're a good and thoughtful son. I dunno where you can get a fun car at a decent price, but (as you well know) instead of focusing on what he drives, it might be a better idea to focus on where he can drive it. Sometimes, guys w/o a proper car avalible get rentals and use them at autoX's and even track days. There are ofcourse some errr...'technical'... hurdles to overcome in terms of insurance, but a creative mind should be able to work it out. Or... just take him 'out there' have some friends spot him on the road ahead and let him do a couple of runs w/ you in the passenger seat talking him through it.
