Unhappy trading in question

hi guys,,,
i guess it time for me to sell my z.. or actually trade it in...
the 4 wonderful years of owning my z will come to an end..
i had hoped i wouldnt have to sell my baby, but the engine i guess is done fore and i cant afford to keep the z running.
o.k. here is my situation.
i took my car into the nissan dealership in tacoma and they told me that i will need a new engine and that it will cost somewhere around $13.5k
that is for a new engine and clutch job.. now i dont have that kind of money to fix my car so i am thinking about trading it in. the problem with my engine is the main bearing and some rod bearing..
it is making some sort of knocking noise, but not too loud.
do u guys think its possible to just trade the car in as is? or will the dealership find out about my problem?
im not quite sure what to do.. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Can't you buy a used z for a around the price of a new engine and clutch? I'm sure the nissan dealers will know about your engine problem. The other car dealers may not know but I think it would be dishonest.

Holy hell...that sounds like a little too much money for an engine. Go to the buy/sell forums, there's people selling engines there, and the best and cheapest place i've got clutches for my past cars has always been ebay, then find a shop you can depend on to have them throw it in..you're always going to pay about twice as much at a dealership to have them do it..

edit: I actually have a buddy in renton who is very good with engine drops and major mods, he had a supercharged g35 himself for a while...anywho just let me know if you're interested, he'd hook you up.

i would love to keep the z if i had enough time to fix and the costs were a little cheaper.
i have looked into getting a used engine and trying to find a shop to install all that stuff, but i go back to school in like 2 and a half weeks, so time is very important.. it couldnt have happened at a worst time...
i know if i trade my car at a different dealership, it would be dishonest and fu**ed up and all, but i dont see any other options i can take...
and drinking certainly didnt help... hehe

I'm wondering how your bearings got worn out. How many miles are on your Z? Was your car boosted, raced, or abused? The clutch I can understand since it's more of a wear item.

The dealerships quote on your vehicle is ludicrous.

Please don't trade your car in. Find a competent mechanic and
get a quote for repairs from him. The dealership is NOT the place
to service your vehicle. Simply buy the car and NEVER go back.
