Default what a nightmare my spoiler has been

Three weeks+ back, I ordered my spoiler (nismo v1, which I thought was going to be authentic at the time). It arrived a week after, and we threw it on the car, it looked flush, looked like it would fit just fine. Due to my painter getting backed up on work from dealerships, it got delayed a bit for painting. anyways, it was finally painted. I come in and find out that he had some paint run so hes keeping it another night to make it right.

next day, the spoilers at the shop, so I come in to get it installed. we put it on the car and WOW, it is SEVERAL shades darker then my car, looks like crap. on top of that, there are several flaws in the paint and some orange peel effects.. and then, we notice some fitment/uneven issues. It's definitely a replica.

so after waiting three weeks, this spoiler is completely a bust. the shop decides that it's kind of pointless to spend all this money to make the current spoiler work, when we could just order one that actually fits the car right and just get it painted by someone else.

What a headache I am very glad the shop I go through is very stand up though, I didn't even have to say a single complaint before the resolution was offered. I feel pretty bad though, they are probably going to take a fairly large hit to resolve this =/.

pointless thread, just venting really. if any of you can recomend a good spot to order the spoiler from, I am all ears, I've located a couple of "authentic" ones but after this I am having my doubts.

everywhere I drive I am going fast enough to require the downforce given from the spoiler though. :|

in all seriousness, every car I've had has had a spoiler, not that the Z doesn't look great without one, but I think it definitely looks good on there

the painting is actually out of my hands. the shop I ordered it through / doing the install is also getting the paint taken care of, they don't paint in house though.

I can throw a suggestion out to him, but he's already called in a different painter who came in to look at the spoiler and the car. I'd rather leave the painter choice liability up to the shop in case it turns out unsatisfactory lol

he said he wanted to take my gas cap off for comparison purposes while painting to help match it. seemed like a cool guy that knew what he was doing, I have faith in the shop to make it right, just going to take a while longer.

I know how you feel. Just got my Nismo V1 spoiler painted and ready to install when the body shop tells me that the spoiler will not cover the stock spoilers holes. It turns out the previous owner did a horrible install job and it will cost me $600 to have the holes filled, the hatch repainted and spoiler installed or keep the stock spoiler. So now I'm stuck with a freshly painted spoiler ($200 paint job).

damn what a bust man. I am lucky, mine hasn't had a spoiler before so its just a matter of finding a proper one that fits correctly.

Where did you get the spoiler?

John over at CarNutz is really good with paint, think his shop is based somewhere in Seattle however.

Sounds like a lot of headache, but once everything is as you want, it'll be worth it...
