Default towing company...

well, I went to a concert on tuesday night at teh showbox sodo, and I parked at Krispy Kremes. The place wqas closing, and I figured I was good to park there (even went in and bought 2 doughnuts before they closed). I went into the concert not worrying about anything especially since last time i went to a concert there I parked there as well. Came out of the concert a couple of hours later, and found my car gone, as did about 8 other people that night. We called and found out that our cars had been towed to a nearby place, and that it would cost $320 to get them back. I noticed that where I had parked there were big scrape marks on teh ground, and pieces of fiberglass left there. I went to my car at the other lot, and lokoed at my vehicle. There is a big hole on one side of my fender, they scraped the **** out of the sides and front of it, and they put 4 holes in my 2 front Volk RE30's (2 holes in each wheel). I still ad to pay to get my car back that night, and the owner has made himself "unavailable" every time I call now. I made them note the damage on my paperwork, and hopefully that will save me here...Anyone have any experience with this kind of stuff? The company was Lang Towing on 6th ave in seattle. I'm really pissed now, and feel powerless in the situation, since I work, and he wont answer his damn phone. Should I call 1 more time and tell them if they don't talk to me that I will just get my lawyer involved?

bro. GET A LAWYER!. I had a horrible experience with that company as well. A couple years ago my Integra was broken into downtown. They came to tow my car and even though I was there, they managed to damage my front bumper and side skirts. When I noted and told the driver he said to call his main office. When I spoke to the owner he said drivers are liable for the damages they make. Basically giving me a deadend. Well, I was gonna have some work done anyways so I didn't push hard enough to get them to pay for the damages. I regret it now but you should really get a lawyer, that's the only way they'll pay for anything!

i'm guessing they used the same type of machine that they use for repo's and such where they pretty much just have those clamp things for the front, and when they backed the truck up to get them under my car, it clamped the sides of my wheels, putting 2 holes in each wheel around the lip in the same spot on each side.

dude that sucks really bad - I am with the others, get a lawyer! they are scum and will do anything to keep their money, they will deny the damage was their fault to no end.

the paper work you had to sign to pick up your car.. did it have any sort of waiver on it? that's where they get most people.. documented proof that you signed and OK'ed the condition you are picking your car up in.

sorry you have to deal with this mess.

If you are going to get a lawyer, stop calling the towing company. Let the lawyer deal with them. Mouthing off at them will only set you up for failure.

I say this because, you can set yourself up for a counter-sue if they want to claim that you were badgering/harrassing them to the point they were "in fear for their life". Sounds stupid I know, but stuff like this happens all the time.

Research an exact $ amount on the damage caused. And take pics of everything. Because you will be charging the towing company of negligence. (http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/n010.htm)

And talk with the lawyer about your option.

In addition to the lawyer, a free option would be to contact the Washington Attorney General via online submition. They'll log a complaint against the business and can try to mediate the situation. The owner won't be able to avoid the letter he receives from the AG.

I talked with someone else.

They said talk to your insurance, get them to pay for the damages; and get them to hunt down the towing company for their losses. I was told they insurance company should be able to fight the towing company to pay the deductible as well.

This way you don't have to pay for a lawyer, the insurance company provides one.

(Just another option)

Sorry to hear. I think I had a previous car impounded years ago by these guys before, when I was parked in Belltown. Luckily there wasn't any damage in that instance.

I still don't get how they put holes in your wheels. Do you mean scratches? Rash? Dents? Bends?

nope, i mean missing chunks from the wheels. not holes all the way through, but like you hit a curb doing 15mph, but didn't bend the wheel, just gouged out a lot of metal.

really sorry to hear this... the unfortunate part of it is you will need to take legal action... as much as i dont like to admit it i used to impound cars in minnesota... and we the drivers were told to get the vehicle as fast as possible and as safe as possible for the driver... meaning if they had to take out your bumper to save 2min... they would ... as ****ed up as that sounds its a very tough case to fight.... good luck and sorry to hear about this
