Optima Battery (locally)
#21
Not sure who is going to have the reverse post configuration locally. I went online to get my redtop.
For the guy that had the yellow that went dead. Sure these will go dead. But these batteries are meant to be deep cycled. ie...all the way dead to all the way charged. Normal batteries can't do this.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'm pretty sure my current battery is the original one, so it's completely done after 5-6yrs. Hopefully there isn't anything wrong with the alternator either. Still debating whether I want/need to get any or all of these tests: load/charging system/parasitic draw.

So if I go for a cheaper battery, what should I get? Interstate? DieHard? Pacific Power? Other? I recently just realized I know nothing about batteries, since I've never had to actually replace one on any of my vehicles.

Since that one seems to be failing more due to age than use, almost anything would work. But Die Hards and Interstates are two of the more reconized brands.
And the chances of a reverse post fitting your next car is probably slim

johnson controls makes almost every battery out there, they just have different stickers for brands on them. i've had an optima yelow top go back and forth through cars and be beat on by demanding stereo systems in my vw's and i've loved that thing. i've had it go dead from sitting and brought it back from the dead a couple times. mine isn't the reverse terminal either, but in my gti i just stretched the cables and crossed them with zero problems. the posts are usually pretty centered and closer together than all other batteries so you may either cross the cables, or stretch the to the front a little to reach. right now i work at the autozone on 272 and pac in federal way (i'd really like a new job, though ) so if you decide not to go with the optima, i'd suggest get a duralast battery from them. not saying its better than any others just cause i work there, but its made by johnson controls also and they got killer warranties. autozone will replace just about anything...
