IT not stupid at all. the 9500i is last years model and 9500ix is this years!
also 9500ix has blue display as the 9500i has red.
9500ix has speed cameras or red light cameras build in.

the 9500ix is also gps enabled. That way if you have a false read you can put that in the unit and it will never go off there again. So in short it'll learn your routes that you frequently travel and get less annoying over time

In a nut shell: The 9500 you mark the false signals manually & 9500ix does it for you.

Are you sure about that on the 9500i?? I thought the ix is the only one with gps, I wouldn't think that the 9500i would even know where you were at to know where your "marked" falses were

The NEW Passport 9500ix takes the next great leap forward in radar and laser protection. It starts with ESCORT's test-winning performance, which sets the standard for true long-range radar and laser protection. In addition we've added "AutoLearn" which utilizes our patented GPS technology to identify and eliminate false alerts automatically. This "artificial intelligence" creates the world's first fully automatic radar and laser detector - You drive. It learns. End of story. Nothing could be easier.

We've also addressed the increasing number of safety cameras throughout the U.S. and Canada, including red-light and fixed position speed cameras, by programming thousands of these locations into to its memory. As you approach these high-risk locations, the PASSPORT 9500ix alerts you in advance, keeping you up to date and ticket-free. To stay updated, simply connect it to your computer and download the most recent updates from our website.

I've actually read (and seen videos of) some really dodgy things regarding the false lockout of these models. Specifically locking out a location as false doesn't always differentiate signals well enough to identify a real threat in a locked out location.

Example: Lockout a security system at a Shell station, LEO sits in the parking lot, detector will not alert.

Never had any problems with any! I think escort is one of the top if not the number # 1 out there!

That maybe true. However, the great thing about these RD's is that any bugs that are found in the system could be easily updated with a update push provided by Escort. With the 9500ix, is as easy as pluging the RD to the USB in your PC and voilà! Bug fix!

I'm not saying that they're bad detectors by any means, and maybe things have changed from when I last looked (probably 6 months ago or so).

The only disadvantage to relying on the whole USB update thing is waiting for them to do an update, and if they're even able to update the firmware so that the hardware can actually differentiate properly. But I hope they can.
