It should be "anyone willing to risk losing their life for something as petty as a car is pretty retarded"

for one I am glad people like this don't just let thieves do it and call insurance companies. somebodies gotta keep the thieves in check and give them a scary scenario to correct their behavior. if it was always risk free, thieves would be running rampant. hate thieves, scum of the earth..

I am sad to hear the way he approached it (entirely unarmed and unprepared for the worst), though. there are other ways these scenarios can pan out, it doesn't always have to be someone getting injured, killed, or entirely neglected and just letting it happen . he could have potentially scared the **** out of them while keeping his distance and diffused the situation.

way too situational to dive into, but guns aren't just for killing people - however anyone that would carry and potentially draw the firearm should be fully prepared to accept the consequences for their actions, and that it might escalate the situation to where they would need to use it.

I agree that cars are a damn petty thing to care about that much, especially with lives at stake, but I am more interested in the thieves having some sort of consequence then anything else.

I think I might be misunderstood here. I mean to say is this. If a thief wants to risk his life for something like a car, then I don't see the problem of the owner obligating his request.

I have thought about this too. What to do in a scenario like this? You walk up to your car and some scum buckets are breaking into your car. If I had a gun I would fire a few rounds missing them. I would only shoot them if they were trying to hurt me. But this can get ugly fast. But I suspect if the thugs see you with a gun, they will probably just run away... but if you dont have a gun (or weapon) and you confront them, you get a knife to your gut. Nice huh.

it's a tricky scenario and you have to be ready to deal with however it pans out. note that pulling a gun out is a life changing decision, even if it is just used as an intimidation tactic, you could have just escalated the situation to a life and death scenario and they may very well pull one out on you.

.. or you could get lucky and they will just run like bitches at that point.

there are many other ways it could conclude. that is probably the best and worst resolution. you should probably think about it in advance so you are prepared and confident if it ever happens to you.

One word.

Kneecapped.

Call the cops, while the dude is trying to slither away, speak loudly so he (the theif) can hear that you saying to the police you; caught the guy breaking in your car, he had a knife and malicious intent when confronted- you shot him in self defense, and now he is trying to crawl away.

The only way to get away with shooting someone who's trying to steal your property is to make sure there's only one side of the story, and that your story (you better hope it's your side) is believable.

If it were me, and some long-haired meth-head douchebag came at me with a knife, he'd never have to worry about rehab. A couple lead pills from a Kimber 1911 is a sure cure...

I like this thread. When I get my car back, I will be packing. Those people should be taken out. One less lowlife in his world. Just make sure they are dead. Dead ppl don't talk.

I recently witnessed a car jacking in our condo parking lot... As in i came outside to see the guy get stabbed, and chase the car jacker throught the bushes, and then get beat to crap (by the robber).

I asked the responding officer if i had the right to flash my concealed pistol to threaten the guy doing the stabbing... (not fire a shot...)

He said NO.

If I'm not the one getting stabbed, best to keep it concealed.

He did say if the guy is charging me, with a knife, with the intent of harming me, that's different.

Basically have to get stabbed before you can shoot....

Personally...
If it's not my wife or I in trouble, i'm not pulling my 45 out.
I'm not sitting in jail for anyone I know for teh next 20 years for man slaughter.

I got lowjack... you can have the car.

They caught teh a-hole hinding in the bushes with a K-9 dog
