New Plenum Spacers
Hello my fellow Z brother and sisters,
Just wanted to know if anyone has bought any of new Plenum spacers and if so, what your thoughts are on them. I saw two, one made by AAM (angled Plenum spacer) and one from Motordyne. If any of you have either one please share your experiences.
Sometimes I have a hard time believing those who market them as they all claim Big Gains and no problems.
Your thoughts?
Bob

I have the Motordyne 1/4" spacer, installed it last week, I have no dyno numbers.
I chose it because it seemed well designed and worth the price/performance without loosing the strut brace. I like this flat one over the angled one I saw because I figured it would fit better and not pull the bolts sideways. Look for the group buys.
I wrote up an install here http://www.hypersprite.com/auto/tech-z-002/index.asp
The install was straight forward and other than the INCH pound wrench, it takes no special tools or experience. It comes with all the hardware (bolts, strut brace spacers, etc). After installation you can hardly tell it is there so it has no BLING factor.
I have an Injen CAI and the sound seems unchanged from before (still growls the same as it did with just the Injen).
My idle has been choppy since I put on the Injen (and occasionally before that), but since I put on the spacer it has only gotten choppy twice in over 600 miles. I have no grounding kit.
Acceleration seems stronger starting around 3-3500 and continues to pull all the way up to redline. Before it always felt like it was flattening out a bit at 5800 or so.
I just got a PocketLogger tonight and am going to see how the computer is behaving with that Mods.
That is my opinion, I would buy it again, but would love to see some more dyno numbers. I have no affiliation with Motordyne other than as a customer that bought their product.

I've been a happy owner of MD 3/8" spacer for almost a week now. Love it. Car is much more responsive from lower RPMs. Not a single thing that I don't like about it.
I might get flamed for this, but it seems like there's 10+ whp gain from 4500rpm and above. Wednesdy drags will show.
This is on sedan with only y-pipe and z-tube.

HyperSprite,
Did you notice the strain in wiring that raised mountpoint created?
I'm talking about the backet that is held by bolt #8.
I just bent the bracket a little bit toward the firewall - solved the problem.

Thanks to the both of you for your opinions, they are valued and honest.
MOTOP have you had problems with your idle and are you both going to TS flash your ECU's at some point?
Bob
P.S. MOTOP your wiring harness could have have been shorten with the 3/8 spacer. Just a guess but it looks like you made it work.

Strained wires is a big NO-NO in my world. I'm a network engineer.
No problems with idle. I have ground wires though.
I'm not doing a reflash. I think stock ecu is more adaptable than we realize.
Another install comment that I posted on g35driver is to remove z-tube completely during the install instead of just disconnecting it from throttle body.

Chris,
That's a great write up!
Thanks and I'd still like to see your black box Mod from KP technologies.
Still up in the air about this weekend's BOZZ meet.
Bob
Props to Chris for the great writeup. I was unaware that a product like this was even available. Sure looks interesting. Glad to here positive feedback.

I have been thinking about a re-flash but I don't like the idea of shipping my ECU off. We'll see though.
The wires were not strained on my setup, I'm a no-strain guy myself, I like my wires relaxed and comfortable for the ride

Your right about strained wires.
What's the advantage of removing the whole Z tube?

Z-tube unlike CAI has a flex section which will want to expand and push the trottle body, making allignment process much harder.

Yeah, E Ks dyno he did himself got ripped on this board just because Motordyne gave him the spacer for testing. That was a crazy thread.

Crawford's attitude plain sucked. Nothing that says Crawford on it will ever make it on my car purely because of that.
And this spacer is not the only instance, remember Alphawerks thread?
I don't give a rats *** that I still have a slant on the top plenum cover. I personally think it is there for a reason, so does my dad, and he's an aerospace engineer.
My butt-dyno said big YES, and that's all I care about.

Me too.
When someone first said Infineon I said "what?"
My brother in-law raced GTP lights and Atlantic cars, we use go there every year.
