Default Black Chrome?

Does anyone know where I can get stuff "black chromed"? I'm thinking having some misc. items done such as my intake tube, throttle body, plenum, bolts, etc...I'm planning on giving my whole engine bay a Black Chrome, Silverstone, & Gloss Black theme (Stealth). I was even considering having the center pieces of my iForge wheels done as well. Is there any drawbacks to having stuff black chromed? What kind of pricing should I expect? If you've had stuff done, could you please post pics?

Thanks!

Hmm... Michelle might have a lead on this... she once got her rear emblem electro-plated or something like that from that stock chrome color into a smoked chrome color. But then again, that was plastic...

Hmm? Not sure if that's the same thing. Essentially I'm only looking into doing this for metal objects. Hopefully something that is fairly durable & long lasting. BTW...would it be a PITA to fix if I get a scratch on something black chromed?

The only drawback I can think of is added weight!!

True. I guess the wheels would be out of the question but if I'm just going to do a few parts here & there in the engine bay, I don't think it'll contribute that much weight.

for metal parts you can have it powdercoated "black chrome".

for anything plastic, it cannot be powdercoated as it would melt. you need to have it electroplated. electroplating can get quite expensive and hard to find, my oem emblems cost $110 to electroplate.

now if you want something polished(will look chrome), such as your tb, i can refer you to a local shop that does it.

Default here are pics....

for your engine bay...
you can always just get the plenum powdercoated (mines the crawford black v5)

i would show you pics with the silverstone battery/brake covers, but henry is the proud owners of those now.

here are pics of electroplated stuff

and a comparison pic between silver emblems and black chrome.

Check with Bruce (longbowe) he had his stock wheel done- not sure if it's the same place that Michelle knows or not.

I had Stevens Creek do it. They actually subcontract it out, though. When I was having my car repaired after Highway 9, the body shop said there's a place in Antioch that does it.

Hmm? Nice info everyone. Glad that they offer the "black chromed" look as a powdercoat since I like the durabilty of powdercoating. I'm primarily looking into spicing up my engine bay at the moment. Not immediately looking into the wheels just yet but wanted to get a feel for what kind of options I have. Bruce, do you happen to have pics of your wheels? I have a feeling I've seen them before but I just want to make sure.

Thanks!

i can refer you to a powdercoater and a polisher, but the electroplater is no longer electroplating black chrome.

This isn't a well-lit shot, but I liked it. Courtesy of BobbyBoy:

Wow...that's pretty dark. Maybe it's just the lighting but I thought black chrome looked a tad lighter than that.
