You could sleep (something with almost no lasting value)

OR

You could start here

Then follow me here

Driving past here

Driving under here

Then past here

To end up, up here

and then back again

By the way, I did a test run from South San Jose up to TI. Leaving the house at 5:15, stopping to get gas and then heading up there got me on the island by 6:17. The lights on the bridge turn off at 6:30 so if you want any pictures with lights on the bridge, get there on time.

Fog was the only issue and who is to say what it will be like when we roll on though. We'll just hope for the best.

Tips for this run.

Bring a jacket or sweatshirt, it can be cold in SF just about any time.

If you are arriving at TI from the city side of the bay bridge for the first time, you will need to be in the left lane and pay attention. The hole it the wall is like driving into your garage at 50 mph and then making a quick left. Nothing a Z can't handle but just so you are aware of it. The Oakland side has a toll and the TI exit is also on the left but the turn off is not nearly as drastic.

I've been thinking about this little run for a while now....Since I am already in SF. Sunday is usually my day off so my main thing is getting up at 6am on a Sunday and explaining to my lady that my entire day will be spent with Z drivers! That should be interesting....Ha ha!

Taking pics at the Marina Green has been on my list for the longest time! It's one of the most picturesque spots in the city other than the view from TI. Its awesome around Noon because the fog burns off and you can get the GG bridge, Sausalito, Tiburon or Alacatraz in the background depending on your angles. Parking becomes a problem though... Good thing the run is in the morning. Just need to hope for clear skies and no fog to get nice pics.

I guess I'll go down as "tentative," and will update you guys as we get closer to the date. If I don't have to work the Saturday before, I'm in for sure. In the meantime, I'll think of other places in the city to hit up...

Chris, thanks for putting this together and hopefully I can make it!

the time that you posted is way earlier than some of the caravans that are trying to get there. I'm going to see if the sacramento people would want to get there any earlier.

I figured because this run was so early and because the caravans themselves take time. So say, meet at 5:00am, wait till 5:15am and drive to SF etc. would just mean that we would have to wake up even earlier, and I am not really a morning person.

The timing of the run is important though because as I tested last weekend, there is considerably more traffic just one hour later and that could effect our flow through the city.

So unfortunately, those going on this run won't be able to take part in any of the normal caravans but we will have better stories to tell when we get to RR

Please put me on the list.

Oh yes, SF. Too bad we can't block off a couple of streets and do the Bullit thing:

No problem I like to kick it in my Z. High speed is reserved for track or closed course. Sure we can't talk the city into something here. Like "THE RUN SF STYLE".

Yeah, he can lead as a pace car since he has the passport. LOL !!!

Thought came to mind. I have a couple cheap personal radios. We might be able to use these on the cruise. Any one else have them we should talk about a couple channels to monitor and talk on. With this amount of cars we might talk over each other but it would be fun.

My experience is they come in handy when someone get lost. It doesn't work to navigate but it helps to get someone back on line if you designate a "directions" channel. Then those with nav or maps can help. I wish I had nav but I know the Bay Area pretty good. Mapquest/Maps work for me. But when your lost it's nice to get help if you are within a mile or so.

I wonder if the RR-TI organizers have thought about this. I will email the original poster and see if it's worth their trouble to set up some comm channels and put it on a map to the final designation at TI. It's such a easy ride it may not be needed for that part.

Mecinoid, feel free to bring radios if you want, if I remember, I might bring mine. If you see it fly into the bay, don't be surprised. I love technology but fax machines and frs radios throw me over the top, lets just say I have had some bad experiences with both.

I am bringing good maps for all that put their names on the list and the way I lead, you would have to be asleep to get lost on this one. For those that are sleeping, we'll put you in the middle

We will be running a tandem lead on some two lane sections so our line should stay together ok and there are only two spots on the whole run that might get a little dicey as far as getting lost and I will explain them before we start.

Oh good, someone with a plan.

I know what you mean about the radios but it could be fun.

When the radio is on we forget to answer the darn things. LOL !!!

Sounds great. Still over a week away ...... I've got to go Wednesday drags or something next week to get my fix.

I just want to add, in case I was not clear before, there will be plenty of time to get to RR after this run.

We will not be late for lunch.

Moodie, I'm a supporter of staying married & doing the Inlaw thing for peace.

BUT-----you'll be able to have your Wife & Inlaws meet you at RR, by the time they get going on a Sun. morn. They will not miss you .

I am assuming your Wife & Inlaws are supporting you--- "On This Historical Event"

Twin Peaks 8am - A ...... shouldn't we be done by 9am .... Am I missing something?

I want to try to make SJ by 10am if possible but, not manditory. This is more important to me.

My plan it to meet the guys at ZcarGarage at 10am and travel to KK then to RR after we are done cruisin' the city. I mean 3 hours that early in the AM should do it right?

Is that yes to: I missing something or, yes to: that we should be done by 9am?

BTW-4my350z, thanks for marking the group parking areas at TI. I am sure that will help a LOT !!!
