Arvin needs help on Plasma TV......
Give your daughters a baseball bat or a hammer and let them run around the TV

Plasma is bright (better gray scale) and LCD has better life span.
If you have the room, go with a DLP like Chad, John, and I.
As for storage, there is a storage in Santa Clara CA 95054 that let's you store the Plasma or LCD for free.

LCD does not have a better picture quality, you have to be kidding me. I own a 50" Panansonic and I guarantee no LCD looks better and i have seen many.
Only plasmas that don't look good are either off brand, not HD meaning no 720p or 1080i, or don't have a component connection. If you connect a regular signal into it sure it won't look good but thats the quality of your signal not the TV. Trust me when you see HD on a Plasma vs LCD youll drastically see the difference.
As far as the glare, all TV's have glare just dont watch it with the sun beating on the screen. Close the curtains or remove it from the opposite direction of the sun. Forget about burn in and all that. Its highly overrated.
People shouldn't be afraid of buying Plasma. As far as where the technology is going. That's up in the air DLP maybe the future once the size shrinks and LCD maybe the way to go who knows but for now you can't beat a plasma.

i have seen many plasmas and not all have good picture quality. my homie who has a plasma (i dont know maybe 60") regrets buying his. i saw his tv and i could see what looks like pixels even from far away.. and the glare really sucks on em.
only drawback of LCD is that it costs more than plasmas inch for inch

42 inch? you want the 60 inch Sony Wega..... it's on sale now for $16,000
btw, I can store the 42 inch for you. Heck if you give me the key to your house, I can "disable" the big screen TV for you while you're away with your kids. And ship it over to my house so I can "enable" it again.

You could "disable" the projection with a glass of kool-aid on top, and blame it on the cat/dog/child.
Can't beat a Plasma for the money, just follow the burn-in procedure and you'll be fine for a long time.

I found the viewing angle to be a bit better on the LCD (even though plasma is suposedly better) and in the HDTV viewing the LCD is absolutly a sharper image. That doesn't neccessarily make it better but it is sharper.

Let your two and four year old bang your new plasma once.
The bruise will be there forever and to repair it will cost more than a new set. If your four year old manages to put a tonka truck through the screen it's not going to be a cheap repair but it's going to be nowhere close to the cost of the set.
We had been using plasmas but found that the cost of replacing them every two years was getting crazy - the labor cost alone were high. I've just replaced 80 CRT based broadcast quality monitors with four Barco DLP screens. We go through a $300 bulb ever six months but the overall cost of ownership is much lower than the old CRTs as well as the plasmas.

If by "better picture quality" you mean brighter than I'll lose but if you mean picture resolution, color accuracy, black level, contrast levels, gamma tracking ... I win. Most people aren't going to notice the difference and will be more distracted by the sexy form of the flat cabinet of the LCD or plasma. The "spider" that makes the measurement isn't.
The study proved that CRT's were best hands down. LCD's followed and last was plasma screens. In the rear/front screen projection units CRT's were the best again. I've got a Barco LightCanon projector that is just beautiful projecting a 10 foot screen in full office lighting in the auditorium in my building.
BTW - I can take any two screens and tweak on them for a few minutes to make one look better or worse than the other. There's far more range of adjustment between the technologies than there exists differences in the technologies.
I've worked in broadcast television studios for the last 25 years ...

Paul thanks a lot.
I do have a $3000 budget for the TV. So what do you think I should get in a 42" screen size? It seems that DLP or plasma is possible at that price range. Any particular brand?

For the price and what you get you can't beat it.
Of course you can get some Ultra exclusive LCD or maybe some DLP that looks better but who can afford it. Im talking about the consumer here. The home theater. Infocus projectors are good but who wants to keep replacing a bulb. Meanwhile the TCO may be lower, but in the long run plasma will be cheaper. The only plasmas ive seen go out or look like crap are the cheap ones. My friend has been installing plasmas for the last 8 yrs or so. he said not 1 of his clients has called saying their plasma either burned in, degraded, wait..the plasma fell out and needs regassing, or anything like that. Its people with no experience or from hearsay that they do this. Of course there will be the occasional 1 or 2 that go bad just like with everything.
Its just like our cars, 03's supposedly have faulty Trannies. Mine doesn't but a lot do, does that mean all are bad.. no.

I'm not going to read all this **** .
1) heard plasma pic. is fading after a while.
2) The NEW slim have a better pic. to start with.
3) The HD ready T.V.'s are B/S (to much typing to go on ) call 925-361-0699
4) HDTV (not needing any box) have very little adjustment from one type of show to another. (I'll explain if you call)
5) the brand new Mirror HD's are the brightest & clearest & will be up to date tech. for four to six + years(downside-- big bucks)
enough

did i forget to say that plasmas are not very friendly with games? they can have burnin problems if you play games on it on a regular bases.. its not good for plasmas in the long run. LCDs dont seem to have a problem with games.. the picture quality is soo nice that ive started to play with my PS2 again and i dont have worry about my tv breaking down in the longrun..
