Arvin needs help on Plasma TV......
You should be able to get a Pioneer 42" plasma for around $3K.
As far as getting rid of your old TV.. can you try selling it? maybe you can arrange for somebody to buy them off you for an amount acceptable to your wife... Post it at craigslist....
Then you can buy a brand new "in box plasma TV" off of a craigslist listing...
craigslist postings would make it more believable...

You guys all bought into the media hype and people that could never afford a plasma back in the day. I play games all the time on mine and theres 0 burn in. They mention burn in as a precaution and a possibility. Im sure some cheaper ones have burned in. But a decent Plasma isn't like you guys think, I should know i own one. Im not someone just saying this for the kicks, you shouldn't fear owning one just because everyone thinks they burn in, LCD has a better display, or you can't see them in low light(that makes sense, considering they knew consumers would sit at home in the dark and watch movies).

Hey Arvin, you can come over to my house and check out my 60" Grand Wega and see for yourself how sharp the LCD looks with the HD channels, I live about a block away from you.
Compared to the the cost of a Plasma, you will get more TV going LCD than you will with plasma. You can even play video games and not worry about burn in. Lamp replacements are about $100-$200 bucks about every 10,000 hours, and can be done yourself.
I got the 60" for about $3,300 more than a year ago (great deal from Magnolia at the time), you might be able to afford a similar size in the XBR format for the same price (or even a smaller Sony Bravia LCD).
DLP is a good format, as is LCOS, it is all a matter of personal preference.
BTW, was that you working on a motorcycle in the garage a couple weeks ago?

I drive the 2005 SB ZR cruising by your house. I live on Selmi Grove about 1/4 mile away up Rock Rose. I saw your Z a few times before I bought mine and one of the other board members said that it was yours.
I will say hi the next time I see you, my name is Joseph.

It can be very confusing, but it is safe to say that you will get more TV for your money with any good LCD vs a plasma.
The only real advantage is the fact that you can hang a plasma on a wall ( which you can do with an LCD if you have the right hardware ) and that a plasma is about 8" thinner than most LCDs.
Go plasma if you are space restricted, don't play video games, don't care about costs, and only want a 40" 'ish screen. Otherwise, you are better off with a good LCD.
Call Michael at Magnolia Hi-Fi in Daly City ( There is another location at Bay St in Emeryville, but I bought from this guy ). He will spend some time answering all your questions about LCD vs. plasma and treat you right.
