hey everyone, im looking into either getting hfcs or testpipes...anyone with either could u plz post ur thoughts on which route would be better... i knoe that the testpipes would gain more hp but i was still debating between the 2. and i was also wodnering how hard the install is on both, and if it would be worth it to get test pipes then switch to stock cats for the sniffer test every few years.... thanx

ps if anyone has either for sale post up or pm me

go with testpine. Cheaper and better. installation cost would be the same. Just bring to the muffler shop to install, cheaper that way instead of the dealer or the 2 Z garages.

I would do a search on the fit of any cats or test pipes you plan to buy, some are better than others and a set of pipes that don't fit correctly will stress the rest of your exhaust and cause it to crack.

Personally, if I were going to change them out, I would get HFC instead of test pipes, the difference in power between HFC and TP is small enough that most drivers could not tell the difference anyway and at least you are not dumping raw pollutants into the air. Sure cats are more expensive than test pipes but quality usually is.

i'd get a resonated test pipe instead of the reg. test pipe, as the resonators will cut down raspiness. i would recommend the labree ones, i have had them on for awhile and couldn't be happier.
if you are concerned with police attn, you better get some hfcs then, crawfords are quite popular.

Like mgl I also have a set of the labree resonated test pipes. They accually made my Injen exhaust quiter after I installed them. They are top quality. I am very pleased.

well i'm not sure how much you wanna spend, but non-resonated test pipes, such as helix test pipes can be had for around $100 or so.
if you want resonated ones, there are some megan ones on ebay for $100-$120. other brands are kinetix and labree with go for $370-$400 something.

i would recommend looking at the private classifieds section.

a '03 model will not have a ses problem.
as for the megans, well i had them and they weren't terrible, but they weren't the greatest either. they are raspy especially upon deceleration.
i know a few members have had issues with megans cracking.
the labrees are 10x better, but then again they cost 3x more. so you get what you pay for. do a search on the megans and decide for yourself.

you can find the megans on ebay or maybe even the private classifieds on this site. (intense motorsports also carries the megans)

for the labrees, you have to buy directly from them or if you are lucky, maybe someone is selling some on the private classifieds (pretty rare tho).

good luck.
