Do not drive around on Capitol Expressway and Monterey Highway areas on weekends, especailly at night time. I guess they are trying to cut down on the street racing around here. A bunch of my friends got State Ref. tickets last week. They weren't even racing or in groups. Just normal everyday driving. So be careful.

A ticket for illegal smog modifications (intake, non-OEM cats, FI etc.) that do not have a CARB EO#. If you have parts that an officer believes makes your car non-smog legal (and do not have a CARB EO# for those parts) they can issue a gross polluter violation. You then have to take your car to a State of Cal. BAR referree for a smog check.

I drive down those roads all the time. There are cops hiding out on those streets on the weekends most of the time. Due to the racers that roam those streets during the weekends.

 

Just your everyday Honda's(civics and preludes). The funny thing is that when he got the ticket he was driving his beater. All the beater had was simple bolt-ons at the time. The only reason is because he still had his turbo gauges in the car so the stupid cop told him to pop the hood and found a found a CAI. And this is what the cop said "How come all you ricers have turbo nowadays?" My friend almost fell over laughing. Thats why he got ticket mostly.

Very true. I was driving down Capitol Expressway last night when I ran a red light. Right when I crossed the intersection there is a cop parked right in the turning lane going the oppesite direction. Luckily for me there is a Firebird right next to me with a crazy *** sounding exhaust and I was driving my Denali. He downshifts to run the light so he's making all types of noise which gets the cops attention and gets pulled over instead of me. I know for sure if I was driving the Z we both would of got busted for racing.

 

I am reading this thread and find it funny how cops pull people over for the most frivolous things. I live in Orange County and I have a similar story. About 6 weeks ago I was pulled over for having "an aftermarket exhaust that violated state vehicle code (wtf, I dunno)." Funny thing is, I had a stock exhaust at that time. I pleaded my case to him that it is a factory exhaust... he let me go with a warning. Go figure.

 

A catback exhaust (after the cats) does not violate any smog laws in CA unless the car has a EGR valve, which the Z does not. I was written up for Injen exhaust when i had it (have Nismo now). I had to go to the BAR ref. who tested my car (with the exhaust) and passed it. However many cops are ignorant to the actual laws involving exhaust violations for and can still cite you. In this case you still have to visit the BAR ref. who will pass your car.

I asked the BAR ref if there was anything I could do to prevent being written a citation for my exhaust in the future. He said there was nothing he could do- just accept it and come for the retest if necessary.

Note: you can be written a citation for noise (dB) which is separate from a smog (gross polluter) violation.

 

These Cops don't just pull you over for nothing. They are probably part of the task force that enforces the law. Most beat cops dont give a dam. These are part of the Street Racing Enforcement Team or whatever. If you are in a given area, fitting a certain description they can pull you over. Just gotta be careful out there. Mostly they only care about Hondas and stuff like that. Z's are a lil more, tasteful and are given a blind eye.
