Question anyone use PhotoBlocker spray?

Ok, I see ads for this in the back of Car and Driver all the time for PhotoBlocker spray (www.photoblocker.com, ignore the stuff about plastic covers, I'm pretty sure those are illegal).

Anyone here in Nor Cal use it? I'd imagine that it's likely illegal (despite their claims). Has anyone ever been caught for using it? Is it easily detectable by the cops, like at night w/their headlights on your plates?

Not that I condone running red lights and I definitely wouldn't do it intentionally, but there are times when we all get unlucky. I go to SF quite a bit now and I've seen lots of red light cameras. They also now installed them at the corner of Almaden and Blossom Hill which I cross 1-2x every day! The fines are >$300.

Does that really work? Wouldn't it come off eventually due to water and rain?

My bad (I think) about Almaden and Blossom Hill. I got out and took a look at the green boxes on top of the walk/don't walk signals. They're just pedestrian signal speakers. There are cameras up way high up on the above the traffic lights, but it's unclear if they're just low res cameras for traffic monitoring or high enough to read license plates.

The stuff is crap. Channel 12 out of Portland, OR did an investigative piece on it recently. They sprayed a license plate with it and could easily see and photograph the wording on the plate. Then they went further: They actually found the guy selling the stuff and he admitted, on camera, that the stuff doesn't work. He conceded that it was "for suckers." This is not second-hand info; I saw the story myself--twice--on Channel 12 (KPTV). Their website, KPTV.com, may well have the story on it.

To respond to Bubble, that thread and articles like the ones below have some conflicting views on their effectiveness. Illinois and Texas have already made it illegal. It's not clear if it's because of it being just an alteration or it being effective.
