Its funny when they say keep racing at the drags when I was on my way up there with a few buddies and they got pulled over for " Illegal exhaust modification " and the funny part was that it was stock ( G35 ).

The CHP sometimes comes in and looks at cars at Infineon. Mostly looking for CARB violations. I haven't been yet this year so I don't know if they are still doing it. Fortunatly they don't really know what they are looking for.

And did he? If so, what happened (did you pay it/fight it/fine/etc.)?

Are you saying that you can't have non-CARB items on your car while you're AT the track? That's total BS, if that's the case.

Yeah, that's BS, how can they tell if you are a street racer or just an enthusiast. So, when if I'm driving my muscle car? Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin', 11-1 pop up pistons, bored over 30, holly double pumpers, edlebrach intake, 411 posi-track out back, turbo jet 390 horsepower, we're talkin' some ******' muscle....I mean, are cops targetting these cars? They are probably worse for the environment and you can street race in them too.

They did this last year and yes, if they could figure out that you had non carb equipment they would cite you. Fortunatly they can't tell what the hell they are looking at. One of the members of this board with TT got by showing them only his JWT popcharger tag.

Wanna laugh, a fellow z32 gont pulled over. Cop said pop the hood(which you can say no to) but he knew he was ok, asked where the intake was so he could make sure its legal.......btw the intake on a z32 is found after you remove the nose panel between the headlights.....he simply replied he didn't know to screw with them, they called backup and backup couldn't find it either.

He got a fix it for plates and tint. BTW he did have a jwt filter but its carb, this took 1 hour and 2 cops to right a fix it ticket.

san jose does suck. thats why i got rid of my evo back in oct for a z. i got pulled over numerous times and 2 being in front of my house! 1 state ref because i had an aftermarket upper intercooler piping what's funny back then was that the cop doesn't even know what they're looking for in my evo engine bay.

I was in my Z32 when I got the exhaust ticket. I still don't have a clear answer on if it's just a fine now or other. Can you really say "no" to popping the hood? That sounds like reason to get the book thrown at you, and an immediate trip to the state referee. WTH do they really look for under the hood anyway? The only thing suspicious under my hood is chrome boost pipes.

I'm not a lawyer but it sounds like you can say 'no'. They can't really check unless you give permission or it could be an 'illegal search'. If you say no they have to have probabl cause usually by seeing things in plain view - ie. aftermarket intercooler, etc.. Not sure if, no plates violation or aftermarket exhaust, speeding gives a cop probable cause though... If they ask, just say no... If they have probable cause, they won't ask... They can't write a ticket to go to a smog referee unless they have specific violations to put on the ticket... just my $0.02.

We all know they can dream up anything. They can say the exhaust is too loud, even if it's CARB-legal, stock, and/or under the db requirement. Anything to make your life a hassle. I agree that you probably CAN say no to popping the hood, but I doubt it'll be well-received. The cop asked me to partially roll up my (lightly) tinted side window. I did so, knowing I could say no, and he said it was ok. He clearly saw the tint, but saw it was light and didn't write me for it.

Thanks again to you, Lou. Damn turncoat Supra boy.

Well, Since the ticket wasn't a fixing ticket, and the judge always favor the cops, i didn't even want to waste my time go in front of the judge and fight the ticket. The fine was about $120, so i'm just going to pay it. Those freaking pigs.....

That's what I was waiting for. I haven't received any paperwork (yet), but was figuring/hoping it was just a fine. At least it's not a "prove it by referee" thing, although a fix-it ticket would have been key.
