My thoughts exactly. You are reading my mind. Do you see how involved this procedure is? It is a voluntary recall so i'm not taking my car in. I've had to many problems with the dealerships so my car is gonna sit out on this one.

Haven't taken mine in yet, waiting till weather clears up...just sitting in garage anyway. MY NISSAN here said they would be happy to take care of it and to just let them know when. I have great confidence in them, as they do all the maintenance on my vehicles (3) since I've been here.

I absolutely agree that it's a big job w/lots of opportunities for error, but I wouldn't sit it out.

Besides the procedure, have you looked at the other documentation at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...fsDocId=05V555 ?

I think it's worse to have a fire and possible explosion or to a have a check engine light come on due to leak. In both cases, assuming you don't lose your car to a fire, they'd have to get in there and do all this crap anyway.

I just got back from an oil change at Dirito Brothers and inquired about the recall. If you've seen the pictures, the work is as invasive as it looks. Dirito Bros did their first job yesterday and it took all day. Given that it was their first, and the extensive amount of work required they wanted to take their time. However, they also said that getting the work done under 3 hours would be a stretch. When you get this done, be prepared to leave your car all day. Finally, when you bring your car in make sure its as close to empty as possible. Even though the notice says 1/4 tank, they indicated it would be easier if you had closer to an 1/8th left.

As for me, I decided not to have the work done today and to wait until after they get a few more jobs under their belt. I was a hair above 1/4 tank, and although they've always treated me right...I didn't feel all that comfortable being job #2.

Any San Francisco people getting this done at Serramonte Nissan?

I've brought my Z there in the past for maintenance but after reviewing the step by step, this is not an easy fix... So I'm a little hesitant at this point.

I bought my Z at Hanlees Nissan in Richmond but haven't been there since they replaced my rattling rear-view mirror.... Anyone do this recall over there?

really? i've always did my warranty work for my car there and so far they done a good job. but my warranty work so far has been pretty simple, just window motor, headlight, tires, and stuff like that.

Redwood city nissan is horrible. They have botched up many simple warranty jobs on my car. They herd you in and out like cattle and try to overcharge for parts.

I got the recall done at Superior Nissan in Fremont. I was surprised, and kind of worried, on how fast they got it done. It looks like a very labor intensive and time consuming job, but they got it done in like 3 hours... Oh well, i'd recommend them, and they are mod friendly

Got mine done yesterday at "MY NISSAN". Dropped it off on way to work and they picked me up from work, too, me back to dealership. It was ready and waiting. Timely, friendly, courteous, free rides by their dealership van, and definitely recommended.

Got mine done along with the rear axle clicking in one day, dropped of @ 0730 hrs. picked up at 1600 hrs. (Daland Nissan - Ben) Fantastic Service.
I used to take mine to (Serramonte Nissan - Erwin) Extremely unprofessional and just a plain a$$hole. He consistently lies every chance he gets. Always promises that the car will be done but waits till the end of the day to tell you that they have to keep it overnight. My last visit was to fix the drivers side window....wouldn't go up. He tells me come in first thing in the morning and he will have it ready in a couple of hours. Ok, fine. Gave Erwin the keys and I sat there and waited. After about 1.5 hrs he tells me that they don't have the window motor and can't fix it today, at that very moment the tech walks in and tells me my car is good to go. Erwin just looked at me and said that he thought they didn't have the motor. The tech looked at him confused. My point is he is a Fu*king liar and why wait 1.5 hrs. to tell me they don't have the motor.
