Default Radar Cameras?

I am aware that there are radar cameras that take pictures of you when you run a red light, but are there any that takes pictures of you speeding? I always see those radar signs on the road that tell you how fast you are going and I always wondered if they are set up to take pictures of you if you are going over the speed limit. Please ignore my confusion as I am from hawaii

btw, if anybody knows where some radar cameras are located, post them up. I'm sure everyone wants to know where to be careful. Thanks

Yes, my co-worker got a ticket mailed to her for speeding. No police just picture of the car. I forgot where it was but somewhere around San Tomas Expressway in Santa Clara, I believe.

Yup, we have them in certain provinces in Canada. Alberta, B.C, have them (Ontario did as well (pre-Martin Liberal era))...

My radar detector used to pick the up long before going though the "trap"

On U.S. 101 (California) between San Jose and Gilroy there are a series of cameras set up with K-band.

I know of these devices being used out of state - ie. Phoenix. But not California.. Unless you're the only car in the picture, I'm almost sure you can contest it successfully... I guess it may be time to get a radar detector.

No I think some of you guys may be confused. Those radar signs on the road are mobile, and are carried on the back of the police car. They do not issue tickets. I believe they are there to "inform" the drivers, possibly a cop in a car monitoring it. I see them sitting in this gated empty parking lot just sitting outside, near my house while driving bye (police storage I assume). But always better to be on the safe side.

i think i saw something about this on the news awhile back. they have a cop car sit on the side of the road with a radar and a camera attached to it. when u pass by the hidden cop, it will take ure license plate.... the next question is... how can they prove it was "you" driving? and what if u had like an identical twin.... or what if u were wearing sun glasses or something...

When and where did you see these exactly?

I know I have seen some deal hanging over the two right lanes right before the weight stations in Gilroy but I assumed this was to count trucks passing by.

OK !! IF someone got mailed a ticket for speeding let me KNOW when the court date is I will come to see this anywhere in the BAY AREA .

the radar detectors go off at the signs ( ones on wheels & new ones on poles) the ones on poles w/ solar panels I'll bet can't take pic. & mail tickets it to you. now the ones on the back streets would need remote or camera wiring to a vcr/dvd/ etc..

you can BET big big $$$ that the 1st parent of a KID in that area that gets the ticket the kids will distroy the device. I think it's only job (in are life time ) will be to tell us what speed we're doing as we pass it.

I- 680, 580, 80, 280, 505, 5, & etc... have CAMERas for "traffic control" (as seen on T.V.) but to also do radar ????? the places that are using TRAFFIC lights control are have a court over use problem. Could you IMAGINE the #'sof people that will go to court if it was for speeding.

They have to post up a sign that states it's a photoradar zone...and they do. So if you don't see a sign, then I wouldn't freak out. Plus, you can't miss the cameras on the side of the road. They look just like the red light ones.

I was watching the news, don't remember where I was, and there were some photo radar units that had just been installed but not in official use because of some grace period or some such. Anyway, they caught these two drivers going over 100. They got tickets anyway and they showed them on the news. The lady they showed was driving over 100 with a coffee in her hand.

Chris

Those white boxes hanging over the outer two lanes are for trucks. What I am talking about are cameras cleverly placed on phone boxes, overpasses, etc. I have sped by these before (90+mph) and have not received a speeding ticket. These camera/radar units are emitting K-band that I pick up at full strength from my Valentine-1 radar detecter. I believe that in order for you to get a speeding ticket from photo radar units, you have to be centered in the picture and your face visible. I'm not sure if the ones on HWY 101 are used for traffic monitoring, or if they are used for actually giving out speeding citations.

However, CHP asked the governor not to cut funding, his response was; You can give out traffic citations can't you....

So, I think it is better safe than sorry. CHP has been issuing many more tickets recently than in the past. Be careful...
