Default Motor swaps???

Now, i've owned a 300zx tt before and loved it, except for it's weight.

My question is for the 240z & 280z guys who swap their motors out for an american motor; why do they do this besides for the horsepower? I don't see them as datsuns/nissans anymore, nor give them respect for the fact their changing the very heart of the car. Why not just get a corvette?

Drag racing.......

The 240z that had V8 conversions can't handle well. Too much weight is located in the front of the car.

An American V8 is easy to mod and with 300hp out of the box. Motor mounts are readily available for this type of conversion. So, it is definitely cheaper to go that route than to modify a straight 6 cyl. found in the older z series cars.

TTV6 would be nasty in a nsx...

Or two 500hp turbo hayabusa engines
then again 1 500hp engine would be enough..chain to axle for drivetrain, rig in a shifter and you got a high revving 500hp turbo engine..so light, paired with nsx would be so sexy...maybe its just me

here is my dream car;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Stree...73464289QQrdZ1
with a hayabusa engine swap so it would rev like the real thing and 500hp would be great in such a car or kart..

That's an urban myth. Have you ever driven a V8Z? A traditional SBC with aluminum heads and intake only weighs about 40# more than the stock L28. A LS-1 weighs less than a traditional small block. Properly setup, a V8Z will handle just as good as any other 240z out there.

As far as why do the swap? Of coarse HP and torque is a factor. It's also the driving characteristics of the car. They are an absolute blast to drive on the street or track. I don't care if Chevy or Daewoo made the engine. If it puts out the power I want is cost effective, I would have no problem using the engine.

It's not for everyone. Some people have a very strong blind loyalty to nissan and would never consider a non-nissan engine yet there is no problem putting non-nissan parts elsewhere. You just have to take the blinders off and consider alternate ways of going fast.

I've only added a headers, exhuast, intake, Comptech SC 9lb kit. So i'm doing 392 rwhp for now. I think that's quite enough, but who ever knows.

Agreed. I know a few V8 240Zs that rip around the track quite limberly. Autox, too.

I'm doing it in my s30 simply because the cult following of Datsun Z cars is all about motor swapping

Yeah, maybe you are right. But the couple of 240z's that have V8 conversions that I have ridden both can NOT handle. Maybe suspension was not setup right on those particular cars. I do believe that a V8 is still a good conversion for the older z-series cars. That's why I still have an LS6 Z06 405HP motor seating in my garage for a future project. FYI, I had 2 240z's, a 280z, a 280zx, 2 300zx and a 350z.
