Don't you need to go to the Police Academy first? How does the whole process go? Does Oakland PD hire you first then go to the Academy for basic training. Are there any age requirements and or limits? I also wanna be a Police officer. I am 63.

Because i am still under 21. i cant join the force. Im trying to enroll into the Cadet Program for those under age 21. Yes if you were to join the force when you are 21. you got to go to take a Test first, then go to the academy and the your in.

My GF's cousin is actually at the Oakland PD Acedemy right now. He use to be a Drill Sgt. for the Marines & he honestly says their training is by far more than what he expected. In short, it will definitely physically & mentally kick your ***!

I ETS from military a year ago and I was looking into this one too..eventhough I'm in Charlotte area but would like to look into other state's police dept. I was looking into either Gergia, NYPD and LAPD(I'm from there). Pay rates are vary from each states and LAPD starting is at 57K a year even as a trainee compare to 38K in NY! I'm sure there will be more danger but they are getting paid right.
My basic training in the Army was a pure 8 weeks of hell because of my drill sergeants...but I'm sure police basic training would be much worse than that..It is all depend on what kind of people you will have to face with..
I've heard from the other police officer told me that his training was a no joke at all(he even compared with his army ranger training program )

BTW, police departments love to hire people who speaks 2nd language..and they are quite short of them right now so they are now offering bonus in almost every state.
