D3 has my vote. I personally have a D2, that I bought for $770, open-box. Has a very nice, factory-installed look. D3 would have the same look, moreso than the N1.

Besides, the D3 is more up-to-date, and seems to be around the same price range as the N1 you're looking at. Makes sense to me to go with the latest model, especially in this case.

If you know a thing or two about car audio, you should be able to install it yourself, relatively easily. I'm no expert, but it took me 2 hours to install mine, and looks like a pro install.

d3 for sure, n1 is quite old. way more than 15 month old, you sure its not an n2? we are already on the avic-n3 model

and yes the D3 does fill the dash better....the n1 is a model that is at least 2 to 3 year old the last time they made it

the D3 is a bit more annoying to install, but if you want, i do the instlalation for around 125-150 depending if you have bose or not...kit, harness and labor...

What's your goal for the system? Both head units use DVDs for navigation, and you have to spit them out if you want to watch a dvd or listen to a cd. If you will use your nav frequently then you may look into a system that has internal memory for navigation.

Thanks for the advice, yea I would prefer the D3 for sure just coz it would look stock (and professional)...how much do you think the kit and harness will cost for the D3 (mine's a stock Bose system now)? I basically want a system where I can switch between watching DVDs and using the nav while on the move....that means I probably have to get something more expensive right? and get the system hacked to play DVDs while on the move?

IIRC, the dash kit was about $30, and the wiring harness is another $20, so you're looking at about $50 for those. Hacking it is a piece of cake. for that, check out http://www.avic411.com. You'd still be sacrificing Nav for DVD, and vice versa, unless you use the an external DVD source, and run it to the aux channel of the NAV unit. Then you can switch back and forth.

I got the D3, and if you want to watch movies or media, Ipod connection is the way to go, no need to worry about swapping the navi dvd crap.

Only thing is that with the bose you're going to experience a very big drop in maximum volume that you probably wont like.
