How much did he charge you?

Did he program your key in your car or did he do it on a computer?

I figured for $2.50 it's worth a try.
I purchased a key FOB remote a while back on eBay for my Murano, then sold it, then used that same FOB and re-programmed the same remote for my Z - and it works.
I guess any key FOB remote will work on the Z after programming - but not the keys.
So question is: Can I buy a Z-key with transponder on eBay then have Dealer program it? Or will Dealer only program keys bought from them?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...em310024393103

This key costs only +/- $20 - way cheaper than Dealer - but useless if Dealer will not even program it.

So maybe I will try that key-guy on a cart at the Great Mall in Milpitas San Jo if he can do it. But does this guy have a computer like the Dealer to program it?
Will he return/refund money if it does not work?

do me a favor. .use the new key and just hold the programmed key near the ignition while u crank and see what happens.. . ..

and i fu buy a key i belive the dealer can program any key!

NISSAN said they would only program a key you bought through them. Bogus I say.... So, your kinda stuck. I believe I had to leave the car for a couple of hours with all the keys and remotes so they could match the coding. I think what they do is set the computer and then go through a process with each item so the computer can recognized and sync up with the various items. At least that is how I understood it.

So for, $125 I have a spare now. I had to shop that at three or four of the dealers. It ranged for $125-180 to get it done.

Yes, that's a lot for a key! Oh well, at least that's all I've had to pay NISSAN since I bought the car four years ago. ;-) Knock on wood ....
Which Dealer did you go to for $50 programming?
Cheaper than the Great Mall cart-guy...

Nope - it does not work.
I tried it several times - under, over and beside the ignition when turning key copy but the Z will still NOT start - just cranks.
Also what it did was disable the Z that not even the orig. key will not work.
I had to enable/disable the FOB to reset the Z so it will start again using the orig. key.
No other way now but have a transponder key programmed to work. Sucks!

He did mine on his computer using my old key. This was a while back but he wanted $60 (OEM Key + Programing) but negotiated at $50. This was on a Tuesday must have been slow for him. I was sceptic @ first but he guaranteed his work and even went out to test it with me.

Ok, what I'm trying to say is that the dealer is not the only ones with the equipment to duplicate the chips in the keys. There are other private businesses that have to equipment and software necessary for duplicating keys with immobilizer systems. However, not many people have the equipment because it is very expensive.

When I had my 350z, I brought the car to the guy with all the spare keys and remotes and he used these devices to reprogram all my spare keys and make a duplicate for me. Apparently, you cannot just make a duplicate from the original program. You have to wipe out the original program from both the ecu and keys and reprogram a new program in all the keys and ecu again.

I just wanted to make clear that the dealerships were not the only ones with the ability to make duplicate keys with immobilizer systems.

They are (obviously) lying. You should call someone out on it. Get a manager, see if he lies to your face. I love stirring the pot at Nissan when you know more than the staff does. Regardless, all models, from 03-present, come with 3 keys.

Doh ... I hate stealerships and the NISSAN call center. They both told me no dice ...

$50 for key and programming is reasonable considering what NISSAN wants to charge for .10 of steel and silicone and 10 minutes to program. I'll have to check him out. That's only about 20 mins from me. Yippie !!!

It cost $50 just for the programming at the dealership.... Then another $75 for the key. I need 3 more for family on NISSAN Pathfinders... So, I'll grab the keys and vehicles and make a run. I know..... one at a time. Doh !!

There's a sponsor advertising here lawerancelocksmithinc that has mobile service. I emailed him to see what he charges for our keys and programming. Plus, I asked if he has a walk in service.

Let see what this guy charges ...

My glove box locks... Would be nice if it would limit the speed of the car so it couldn't go past say, 25mph. Keep Valet drivers from joyriding in our cars. But you are right they are useless IMO on the Z since we dont have trunks.
