Reminds me not to go up to SF without a front plate. I got my plates a week ago but I still haven't installed them. I'm gonna install the rear plate tomorrow. I haven't bought the Zee bracket yet...Anyone has any recommendation?

I put my new plates on yesterday. I used the Zee bracket. It is the best possible solution, but the front plate just kills the look of the grill. I am considering removing the front plate and taking my chances.

I have no front plate and have not gotten any complaints the two times I have been pulled over. Thankfully no tickets just "warnings" which I interpret as the cop wanting a better look

A question for those that have gotten fix it's, did you have personal plates or just the DMV issued ones?

I have the personalized plates, the front plate is hanging in my office.

Talking Front Plate

If you get a fix-it ticket for no front plate, just grab some string and put it through the mounting holes in the plate and temporarily tie the plate onto your front grille then get the ticket signed off. Then take the plate back off.

The police cannot make you screw the plate to the bumper. The law states that the vehicle must display a plate on the front. Not how it must be mounted.

SFPD and many others get pissed when you have no front plate because that's the plate that the "red light" cameras take a picture of. SO.....no plate, no picture.........

Happy Motoring :-) ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I've had 4 cars in the last 14 years non of which had license plates in front (knock on wood) Lucky I guess? The car manufacturers really need to pay attention to designing the frontends to carry a plate as nicely as the rearends.

The camera is the real reason SFPD as such pains about having it. Other cities don't really care as much unless they want to give you crap. I say just keep a fake broken bracket in your car(make it yourself, it's really simple) and then if you get pulled over for it, bring it out and say look, it just broke a few days ago.

Question

i've seen some cars, just have their front plate on the dash, is that good enough or not? i remember back in high school i had my front plate on the dash because i didnt wanna screw anything onto my front bumper at the time and i never got any crap about it when i got pulled over. since i'm waiting on my plates, just wondering if this is an alternative????

I used to do it when younger and I still do it now. Is it a viable alternative for the front bumper mount? According to SFPD, no. Their red light runner cameras can't see the front plate in cases of violation when mounted on the dash. I have my front plate on the dash now, and I guess that I've been lucky that I haven't gotten caught with the Z (plus I'm always in SF at night, making it somewhat more difficult to distinguish, and unless SFPD is looking to tag someone for plate vio... at night, there are bigger concerns to be had )... but I drive EVERYWHERE else (with the exclusion of the South Bay/San Jose area... about once every two months) in the Bay Area and the cops don't bother me about the plate placement.

BTW, I'm probably one of the only people here that is virtually all over the Bay Area, yet only one of you has seen me on the road. 'Sup wit' dat?

I received my plates 3 weeks ago but they are still sitting on the dining table. I'm planning to install the rear plate tomorrow. As for the front, I think I'm gonna take chances.
