I see no reason not to fight this if your car was on your property and not on a public street.
What vehicle code did the ticket say you violated? Maybe SF has some crazy ordinance.
There are a million reasons your front plate was off. Maybe you happened to be detailing your car that day.
Did you park head-in? If not, that's really obnoxious.

I dont think it's worth your time to fight the ticket. I'd just tape the plate on and then get it signed off and pay the small fee.
You go to court and might end up having to pay anyway, so I guess it depends on how much your time is worth to you... Sucks that it happened in your drive way though.

NOT Legal.
they cant prove that you actually drive like that
A) they never actually saw it on a public road.
B) he didn't know the circumstances of why it was off. if he spoke to you and asked why it was off and you told him the real reason then he could have.
only reason they can ticket you in you driveway is for "neighborhood eyesore" where the car is dilapidated and does not keep the neighborhood. if not that is on PRIVATE PROPERTY which means that you can do whatever the *** you want with it.
< had a retired cop on his street that also was the city volunteer that drove around looking to pop everyone for this chit, including me 3 TIMES over my project cars. decided to figure out all the BS rules he was making up as he went along.

Conclusions: Our cars are attractive and most cops are haters, too

state is broke so they need all the money they can get.
you can fight and should win or just zip tie the plate, pay $10, and call it a day. last time i did that, they didn't even check if the plate was on...so i took it right off while at the station lol.

Her ticket was kinda BS because she also got a written warning for her front tint being too dark, yes, a warning for that but a ticket for the plate.
I guess California's plan is to get out of debt one fix-it ticket at a time. I bet the administration costs of such a ticket is greater than any amount of money they actually recover...

I've gotten a couple no-front plate tickets in the past and they were just $10 fix-it tickets in SF. My bro got the same ticket parked on the streets.
I call BS on the $811 ticket. Had to be more reasons than just no front plate.
