Laguna Seca Round 2, 2/25/10 with NCRC
Z enthusiasts -
After a VERY successful event yesterday at Laguna Seca, a bunch of us are headed back on the 25th to have some more fun. $159 entry fee for this historical track is an absolute bargain. The solo groups are full (novice) but you can register and get on the wait list. There is still room in the intermediate (point-by) and advanced (open) run groups: http://www.ncracing.org/events.php
Laguna Seca 2/25/10 roll call:
User ID............ Group....................Car
1) Scotts300.........Point-by..............03' Enthusiast
2) Alving...............Point-by..............06' 350Z
3) Rob @ ZCG........Point-by..............ZCG 370Z Sport
4) Solidfish ...........Solo 1 or 2?.........350Z
5) M1r4cL3 ...........Solo 2?...............350Z
6) mcarther101......Waitlist Solo.........350Z
7) Dave90TT.........Point-by or open...G35 TT
8) Pchio................Point-by..............350Z
9) George K ?.........Open..................NISMO 370Z
We have a few other non-Z friends going as well, so it'll definitely be a good time!
Again, you don't need those special brakes, those tires or wheels you've been waiting for, that custom tune, etc. You just need a day off of work to play with your toy at the track!
Hope to Z ya there!

Zs rule:

First vid that I've found from our day with one of our Zs in it, just happened to be me. This is a good example of a smooth driver with a decent line (I did take vid, but on a new Panasonic DVD Video recorder. Good video, but not a very friendly interface):
Fast forward to 6:30 for the Z-cameo appearance

So, since I live here in Salinas, I would be a novice, how did it get full so quickly. I didn't even know about it. I would have like to be in the group, been on the track twice, and I like the corkscrew, as it makes my "tummy" smile. Would it even be worth registering at this point, as I would have to put in for off work on the 25th, but I surely wouldn't want to just sit and watch...
AHHH i would love to make this event. it would be nice to meet some fellow ZONC members seeing as im new. i havent been able to meet anyone yet really. hopefully a bit later in the spring i can make some either laguna or t-hill track days!

You may have seen it in the last newsletter, but I'm ZONC's event coordinator. It was too late to try and make this particular event a ZONC-based event, but there will still be a bunch of Zs out there. I think we are at least 8 strong so far.novices, especially, cancel because they hope their cars will be "ready" or those tires will be in or that BBK will be done and when they're not, then bail out. Dave is on this forum sometimes, so maybe he'll chime in at some point. I know they (he and Luc that run NCRC) are busy with the club since it's only them and Gwen that handle all the reg, questions, etc., etc. for their events.
In addition to my frends I know that S2ki Bay Area is makin a day of it on the 25th too. There'll be no shortage of S2000s to chase around that day.
It's good that someone in the Z community is attempting to organize driving events rather than stand next to ur car in a parking lot all day events.
I didn't drive it because it didn't last long. Apparently (i.e. according to StopTech), there aren't any aggressive pads for the rear 370Z Sport package / 370 NISMO brakes yet. All they had was an aggressive street pad, but the driver lost the rear brakes after 1 hard lap. I asked ST about it on the forum yesterday (https://my350z.com/forum/8112408-post59.html) but they haven't responded yet. I told them to check with Porterfield, as they can likely cut a custom pad from another car to fit into the Sport rear caliper (same as they do for me/others with the ST43 pad for the non-Brembo rear 350Z calipers).
Thanks! It should be a fantastic day, and I look forward to a great turnout of Zs!
Now if we could only convince more of those stand-around-your-car-people to attend events, we could have a showing like the S2ks, BMWs, VWs, etc., that sometimes take 20 or 30 cars as a group to track events sans excuses. Two events ago for me at LS, the SoCal VW club organized a HUGE group of various VWs to drive at historic Laguna; a few were quite fast! Their turnout was amazing, and we were only 2 Zs strong that day.
I'm in one of the solo groups. I'll be in the Solo group (A or B not specified yet) car #7. Can't wait to get out on the track again. Haven't been out since Dec. and I'm itchin to go.

I can't speak for Dave@NCRC, but he and Luc place people in appropriate groups based on their experience on the track, not with NCRC in particular. When you register there is a box where you input your experience. If you explain your certification and experience, it only makes sense to me that you'd be placed in point-by or open. Someone like you shouldn't be in either of the solo groups for sure. Hope to see you out there!
Both groups still appear on the website as "near full" so you could probably still get in.
