About 1:38 into the 2nd vid is the reason these videos make me cringe. blowing double yellows is NOT COOL. That red SUV may not miss next time.

The whole challenge is to stay on your side of the yellow line. If you go over you are driving it to fast for the day time. The kind of driving you were doing should only be done at night when you can see headlights. Remember, there are motorcyclist and cyclist up on those roads. Be careful out there...

Yesterday I took 25 from Hollister down to 189E, and all I can say is Amazing! I turned left on 189 and followed it up the hills a little ways before turning around and doing it all over again. Well worth the extra drive out of the way. I think it would be very well suited for a rally, the roads are pretty wide and I only saw a couple of people the whole afternoon. (most of which were a few mustangs running it together.) I think it would be perfect to get some Z's out there before it cools off. The only concern is that it's a day commitment for most of the folks up in north bay area. I spent about 5ish hours on the roads over there without counting travel time to get there. but if people would be interested in maybe meeting in Hollister one of these weekends?

Some years ago, I would often drove from San Francisco to LA and when the coast hwy was clogged with tourist traffic, I would cut off at Watsonville and catch this superb detour.

Work your way about 35 miles inland to Hollister and pick up the oddly named Airline Hiway. It runs south for about 50 miles passing by Pinnacles National Monument. The notorious San Andreas Fault (gaping open in places) parallels the road on one side, with the Diablo Mt Range on the other.

This is a perfect sports car road. In addition to the multitude of twisty turns, sweepers and hairpins, it also lacks the two things that attract the attention of the California Highway Patrol. Bars/taverns (drunk drivers) and such, and all night donut shops, an engraved invitation to 'let er rip'.

When the road abruptly ends at a tee intersection, turn right on to the Mustang Grade and drop down about 15 miles to join highway 101 and back to Monterey.

+1,000,000 This is an amazing drive and there's not much out there other than squirrels.

Funny that you mention that, I kept having to dodge suicide squirrels. they kept running across the road at the last possible moment. I swear I saw like 20 of them do it. I suppose there isnt much else out there to do except dodge cars

Wow the Mt. Hamilton road is only about 20 minutes east of school. Now I have something to look forward to going back there.

Hey SilentMed, glad you enjoyed the suggestion for the twisty drive. I know dozens of great drives in both northern and southern California. I always try to decipher screen names, yours makes me think that you might be an Audiologist.

Coincidentally just the other day I was discussing the possibility of a Thelma & Louise style road trip with my girl friend. She’s a ton of fun and I’m a mean demanding *****, but I can show you how to make a Z behave.

What’s your housing situation like in Monterey? (I love that area) Maybe you could host us for a couple days and we could hang out. Having interesting stops is what makes for a great road trip.
