My dad borrowed my car one weekend and forgot to put up the handbrake on our driveway
. Needless to say, the car rolled back into our mailbox and now there's a little dent/scratch on the bumper, which also popped out the signal glass.
I've been taking it to some shops (like Miracle) to get estimates, but the two I've went to have said that to fix it, they need to replace/paint the entire bumper and charge me ann arm & leg for it (around 1200).
I uploaded a picture of the damage to see what you guys thought before I pull the trigger - is this not fixable? Do I really need a new rear bumper for it?
Appreciate any thoughts on this.

$1200 is crazy. A brand new OEM bumper from Nissan will run you no more than $450 and a prep and paint job (even with matching onto the fenders) shouldn't be more than $400...and those numbers are being liberal. I've had both front and rear bumpers replaced (with OEM) and painted for under $650 (each).
It looks like there is a hole in the bumper. If so, it is fixable. But for the amount of time it's going to take (cost of labor) and the uncertainty that that person did a good enough job with the repair, it will be getting close to the "it just makes sense to get a new one" point. It is just a judgment call then. I'm one to just spring for a new one. The additional $50-100 is worth me feeling good about it in the long run...knowing that there is no severe damage under the paint.
Just watch the boards here. There is always good condition used stuff popping up, especially in CA.
--> as far as the foam behind the bumper and the signal lens...look at NissanUnlimited's FS threads. He is always trying to part out cars that are banged up. Since those pieces are not really a high demand, I'm sure you can get those from him cheap...

something similar happened to me (but not my fault) and it was fixed but it ended up costing about that much from a reputable shop.... which i agree is rather unreasonable. A used rear of the same color can be had for only a couple hundred and thats really not that bad in terms of having to wait for the one you need because it is still drivable. Also, post in the Wanted section for a bumper, those usually get some good hits too. either way good luck man!
$1200 is more than unreasonable. It is STUPID. I paid $350 once to get my oem bumper fixed(a piece size of a shoe cracked and came off lol, gotta love the neighbors). I also never paid more than $250-300 for paint and prep on various aftermarket bumpers i owned up to the date. No shitty job...
Definitely, try getting other quotes. Also, since you have a black car... if you didn't take care of your paint, the part that is gonna be painted might be more shinny/not-match the rest of the car. Leave your car at the body shop and bring up the fact to them.
Gluck

$1200 is about right with taxes and everything included. There are some shops out there that might do it cheaper but its a hit or miss with quality. Maybe somebody can share where they have gotten some work done for less with a good result.
I suggest you just go through your insurance and explain that when you came out to your car, the damage was there and it was not caused by you. Technically that is the truth and not insurance fraud and it should be covered under comprehension

I knew I could count on you guys for insight. I'll look into the FS threads for some OEM parts and whatnot. I can break down the invoice, but it's basically what Cali Darkness said:
OEM - 500 (lol)
Paint - 400
Labor - 200 (I have nismo fins on)
Thanks, keep the experiences coming if you have them

pm if you need help with a hook up(cash only). My friend owns a body shop, and I could recommend you.
He's done all the work on my car(custom paint). Last time I visited him, i had my front bumper done; prep, paint, fitment for $250
