Exclamation I need to FAIL smog for a TOP!

Does anyone have a SMOG shop that can FAIL my 350z? I want to FAIL the smog inspection so I can show a failed smog test to the DMV in order to pay $50 for a TOP (Temporary Operating Permit). I'm then driving it to Florida where I can register it and don't need smog anyhow. If anyone knows someone who is down to just write up the paperwork for my "illegal non-CARB intake" in Monterey or Pacific Grove, CA. I'd greatly appreciate it!

This will save me from registering in California paying their fees before paying Florida's registration fees as well. Or it will save me the hassle of VIN verification for an out of Florida-state car.

try taking off the gas cap or disconnecting a o2 sensor then you'll fail no matter where you go and no favors needed.

^----forced_04 responded before I did...his suggestion is better, IMO.

What about loosening a couple bolts at the exhaust joint, and let a leak a little. Then after your car "fails", just tighten 'er up. I'm just thinking out loud...never really done something like this.

I see that you have Kinetix listed...is that for the hf cats? If so, your car will fail smog anyway.

I was thinking about doing the o2 sensor, just don't have any tools/shop access in Monterey, CA.... unless is there a auto hobby shop on one of the navy bases there? I never looked.

There is a gas station/service shop on the NPS campus. I don't think you can do your own work there. I failed my last test because my timing was not at TDC.

Just yank the maf sensor.....the car won't run worth a poop, but I guarantee you fail. It's a total of two little screws.

but yeah the o2 sensor all you need is a jack (came with the car) and you fingers the clip is accessible from the underside of the car.

It will run for a few minutes....just pull the sensor and screw the connector back on...done deal.

A visual inspection would fail HFC's, IF they cared to even look which most places wont...

Other than that i was under the impression that the car will pass a SMOG test with HFC's, no??

In California, they tightened up the smog standards in 2009; So much that the car will not pass smog with the high flow cats. You will need to reinstall the oem cats to pass. My car didn't even come close to passing, but with the oem cats, it passed with flying colors.

That's def good to know! I would have thought otherwise...

I bought my 08 with stillen headers and stillen HFCs I even asked the dealer if it had stock cats and they lied...found out later I gota go and bug em so they buy me oem stuff to have...given that it was certified pre owned and all...blahh lol

I could have sworn that I read on here that people pass with HFCs though...hmmm

I too was really bummed out that I couldn't pass smog with my Kinetix HFC. If you read the new smog laws (2009), you will also notice that there are NO approved HFC in California for the Z33. They are simply illegal for registered cars. There are some exclusions, but right now, it seems that only stock cats are allowed. I don't think that was the case before 2009.

On a separate note, I noticed that Kinetix still claims that their HFC pass the sniffer in CA (http://www.kinetixracing.com/kinetix...onverters.aspx)

No way!!!

Ah good idea, I'll just bring a screwdriver to the SMOG only station with me. Are you sure it wont stall after ignition though?

I can't use the scissor jack on my car due to the sideskirts. If I can reach it though, the o2 sensor connector is accessible underneath? The wiring doesn't go inside the floor or anything?

I have Kinetix suspension parts, not HFCs.

Just unplug the MAF; or any reachable sensor. The MIL will come on and stay on till its reset. You could even just unplug the battery and it will fail. I always have at least 5 customers floating around because they just changed the battery and no one told me before the test. I wish the stupid machine would just refuse to test if the monitors aren't set.

Wait...Motordyne spacer? That's a fail right there!
