Default 2012 SCCA T3 350Z Race Car Thread / Build

I figured I'd start a new thread that catalogs the track 350Z that I bought a few weeks ago. The car has been a track car since 5/26/06 which is had 13,132 miles on it raced by Joe Hermes which he has a few track records with this car, just google his name.

It is currently sponsored by Z Car Garage, Porterfield Brakes, William's Auto Body, Smitty Racing, and hopefully MotorDyne in the very near future.

The car has the following:

2003 Track Model 350z
2006 Rev Up Motor (right over 4k miles on rebuild)
OEM Brembos
Moton Club Sport Coilovers
Nismo Differential
Momo Corse Steering Wheel and hub
Racetech RT4009 passenger seat w/6pt harness
Racetech RT4009WTHR w/6 pt harness
Full Spec Roll Cage (needs door bars)
Safe Craft Fire Suppression System
Currently 3360# without driver with very low fuel - can be 3400# with driver at the end of the race

The car is now at Z Car Garage, and we are hoping to take it on Sunday the 22nd to Thunderhill with Patrick and CityTech. There are some immediate things that need to be done to the car for both safety and due to SCCA T3 rules. They are as follows:

1) Install door bars to roll cage - check
2) Install 50mm restrictor plate - not necessary for SpecZ
3) Change from current adjustable sway bars to NISMO sway bars - SpecZ suspension ordered
4) Replace radiator support
5) Replace exhaust (remove cats, replace muffler section with dual-sided exhaust) - swap exhaust with green Z
6) Replace current 10" wheels and 285 tires with 8.5" wheels and 245 tires - need 9/10 wheels and 275 BFG R1s
7) Replace seat belts with current FIA - check
8) Driver's side safety net - check
9) SCCA logos on suit and Z - also NASA logos - check
10)Check/purge fire suppression system - check
11)SCCA car tech and clinic 2/18 - check
12)SCCA national license - check
13)SCCA school/qual 2/24-27 - coming!
14)First SpecZ event: 3/10-11 at Sears Point

Other goodies to perform / answer:
- check entire suspension, diff, etc., change all fluids - check
- remove headlight wiring
- add oil pan spacer ?
- coordinate side markers
- trunk access - check
- check fuel system (remove worm clamps)
- Obtain NISMO front diffuser, rear bumper, and rear wing - rear wing and bumper: check
- Alignment
- Tune UpRev for 100 octane - have to stay within HP limits for 05-06 Zs

That was the weight Chad measured before I acquired it. Maybe he made a mistake and was sitting in it - I'll know myself soon. Remember - full cage.

Even with the full cage....it should not be anywhere near that heavy w/o driver.

East Coast swing this year?

You can't change the factory injectors or pump = no E85.

350 can compete in T3, but is canon fodder in T2 to the Evo's and 5.0 Mustangs.

I can bring the fuel from San Jose, where it's a few bucks cheaper/gallon than at the track, and the car will make 15-20 more rwhp than on 91. I'll need that with the restrictor, weight requirement, and tiny tires.

Exactly. Only 01-04' 5.0 Mustang in T3 is allowed, but with no power-restrictors like the Z requires.

regulations are tough. seems as though the Z would eat most of the cars on that T3 list, but then again I have no track experience.

There are some tough cars on the list. S2000, Lotus, Bimmers, Cobalt SS, Mustang GT, IS300, RX8, Mini Cooper S, and Sentra SE-R can be really tough.

Watch Brian Kleeman play with this Elise during a national SCCA race.

Looking forward to this! Looking at all the T3 cars that compete and man, those cars are really fast in capable hands.

The current National Champion is a Cobalt SS (Turbocharged model). Keep in mind that most of the cars have to use a restictor to even it all out (350z included).

How big are the restrictors for SCCA? Are like the ones the ALMS GT cars use?

Uncertain, you can look it up on the SCCA GCR. I can tell you that the HR's on restrictors make in the 245-250whp area. Probably only 235-240 for a DE I would think.

HR 350Z needs to use two 40mm restrictors, DE needs to use a single 50mm restrictor.
