just curious if you guys have recommendation on a decent floor jack? should i get the $50 Sears special??

I would recommend a low profile, aluminum floor jack. You can probably find one at Pep Boys or Freight Harbor. I looked for one at the Sears by my house but wasn't impressed with what I saw.

 

I had a Sears jack once and it broke in 2 months. not very good quality.

 

Yea I've been pretty disappointed with Sears/Craftsman lately. Within the last three months I've broken a 3/8 socket wrench, broken a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter, bought a new 1/2 drive torque wrench that didn't torque correctly. Took the torque wrench back and exchanged for another new- same problem. Returned and bought a Husky at Home Depot. Works like a charm. Sears did replace the other items (their return poicy is nice). But if you have to keep returning the stuff over and over there is really no point.

 

wow, i've been a craftsman fan forever... but not too surprised to hear jason's experiences... Sears may not be the same as before! I also saw some nice torqe wrench at Hopme depot... for half the price!!

I saw this alu "racing" jack at Sears for $180.... looks sturdy.... maybe shop around some more!

Well, maybe i will limit my shopping at Sears just for the Fridge!!

The jack from sear's seems to work fine for me. but i'd recommend harborfreight.com for all future tools and supplies. very nicely priced with free shipping. got an impact wrench from them and its grrreat!

 

that's a great site mgl!!! much better price on the impact wrench then home depot! found everything I need at this site for reasonable prices... racing jack and cordless impact wrench!

even though some of their tools are cheap (both price and quality) they are usually so cheap (as in price) that even if it break, it won't break your bank to replace it.
Their jack have been pretty good so far!!

anyways, since you're in Fremont, you should drop by their store. It's right next to Tea Station off Mowry.

 

If you have a Kragens in your area they have an aluminum low profile on sale for $80 this week. Can't vouch for quality though.

thanks dave, yeah... i went into that place and saw a lot of in-expansive stuff... like a giant ratchet wrench for $10... i can use it to just protect myself.... really didn't want to get too cheap of stuff... in case it breaks down at the track!!! but i will go back again since i am a Cousin's(HK style chinese restaurant) regular!!

zPilot, that lift thing looks good... i was wondering where people put their jack on with a plat lifting surface, unlike the jack that came with the car! this gadget looks perfect!

 

yup bought 4 of them...

they actually work pretty good. the car feels more stable when on the jack & jackstand. But does slightly defeat the purpose of a low profile jack though.

Cousin cafe I used to eat there when they first open. The food was good!! then it kinda went down hill after they got popular. Might have to try it again to see if they improved again.
as far as cheap tools. For some of the price you save, you could buy like 3 or 4 spares & Considering that recent Craftsman tools aren't all that anyways... might as well try your luck with the Harbor Freight... unless you're a baller and can afford Snap-Ons.....

 

is it just me or do the pit crews in nascar pump their jacks like twice and the car like a foot off the ground? Maybe it's just suspension travel....

Cousins is not bad... decent price for street food! I kinda miss that... yes, it's very popular now on wkd....more like a zoo!

Nascar, i thought they have a special jack.. doesn't some formula car have the jacks built into their frame or something... that would be cool.... push a button and have the car jump up 3 ft!!

OMG! I didn't see such an exceptional qulity for years... It has 3.5" minimum height which not many jacks offer, and goes to like 2 feet in 6 pumps. Highly reccomend.

It was about $160 total, and usually products of such quality goes for $1000.

 

i am happy with my husky SUV jack...
yeah, if i need to reach the jack point... just use a ramp.
For just changing wheels out(no ramp), it works great!

I got those blocks from jcwhitney, but they dont fit my cheapo jack. I got the autozone special with a creeper and a wheeled stool, a long time ago. I still have as of yet to use the jack, but use the stool all the time (mostly when waxing my car, I do one lap to get the roof, hood, etc, then another lap, scooting around on the stool, much better for my back)

 

those blocks work great!! i am also thinking getting a stool on wheels!! with motor?
