Default average labor cost...hawaii.

I am getting ready to move to hawaii... i love my but I have to be honest as a regular rider of a zx10r and previous owner of a 415hp 300zx twin turbo I would REALLY like more power. Love the look and I just need more power. Around how much would it cost (labor wise) for either the greddy or aps tt kits plus clutch and would it just be easier to get the extra 40-100 extra hp to get the cams done at the same time or would that REALLY jack up the labor cost? oh i am moving to hawaii in sep and if there is anyone that knows good mech. in the area it would be much appre. and could I even get away with the tt kit in Hawaii...? I have asked before and it seems as if they have let up a bit on the whole "reconstruction" thing there is that correct? Thanks

I think you are better off getting the work done in Cali first before moving to Hawaii. More competition + more shops + better experience + greater inventory = competitive work and prices.

I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, but You could save money and learn to do it yourself.

The regional forum would be more appropriate.

Hey man first off let me be the first here to say welcome.

OK recon, for every thing you mentioned there is no recon permit. However, you will need to get hooked up or go through recon if you got coil overs.

As for labor, and Im not speaking for any shop directly; but its any where from $65 to $85 an hour. The only shop I would let touch my car, and realy the only shop that has; is Sonic Motorsports. Hit up Sonicz33, thats seth the owner of Sonics. They've done numerous TT installs, engine swaps, a few builds, cams, ect. They one of the most reliable shops, if not the only reliable shop; here on island. Other shops like Vakamon and Hyper Sport severly over price **** and charge out that *** for labor. And all that is before they touch your car.

There are several reviews here in this forum of local shops. Give it a look man.

+1 on Sonics. I've heard nothing but good things about them. They'd be the only shop I'd let touch my car if I couldn't do something myself.

I'll be second to say welcome.

Hypersports did close down. Our current labor rate is $80/hr. For greddy tt install I currently charge $1600(20hrs)that includes changing the clutch at the same time. APS and PE kits $2000(25hrs) Doesn't include fluids such as oil, coolant etc. As for experience I've installed numerous kits including alot of greddy tt kits. We just finished tuning a G35 with the greddy kit on a EU and produced 436 @8.5psi. As for cam install that does significantly increase the install. Its another 8-9 hrs. Thanks for the bump guys.

Unfortunately it seems like there were a number of people that got screwed when they closed.

If you do get the install here go with Sonics, I wish I had for my APS, but I think I was the second guy in the state when I went through the whole process. When I got my G done Vakamon wouldn't even touch it, so they are out right off the bat. Cost to purchase the kit will be cheaper if you get it on the mainland versus here. The only distributor is Revolution and David has been looking for a dependable mechanic since my car was done. He went through 3 sets of guys and ultimately it was completed out of shop. Took way too long and with so many hands in the pot there were things done that should not have happened if someone simply thought about what they were doing and read the directions before they started.

Save yourself the pain, money, and time and get your work done up there or go with Sonics. BTW I am not sure if anyone down here has the software yet for the Unichip, so you might want to ditch it straight off the bat and go with another computer.

Best of luck.
