morning photoshoot
Photomatix HDR of Calvin's G that I just redid off of the original single JPG (2nd one).

Whether you auto exposure bracket (AEB) which should be on all DSLRs if I'm not mistaken. Even high end point and shoots like the Canon G9 has it. Heck, you don't even have to use AEB as you can manually adjust exposure compensation.
You're pretty much just explaining what I tried to explain. YOU MUST USE A TRIPOD to get the best results, otherwise, the combining of all photos will blur the result. The moving clouds will also come out blurry.
If you want to do a shoot with a sunset, go to Nanakuli. If you have any other questions, I'm always on the Photography section... and of course, always check here.
But really though, I'd just rather use Photoshop and play with the Highlights/shadows sliders. Shoot in RAW, and you'll find Adobe's Camera RAW able to bring out details in shadows and highlights.

Havnt quite gotten the hang of digital editing, all my photos I try and frame up naturaly. So this is REAL NEW to me. It seems a little easier though, I wait for hours to take a few shots and get the lighting right. It seems with the HDR you can get "arround" the right time and go from there.
Most any DSLR you can manualy bracket, but the Canon I found is fairly quick and easy to AEB or manualy bracket. It is just a thumb wheel away.
I just started messing with the single image HDR. The original one was real hazy and you could not see alot of detail in the bricks or on the landing behind the dor way. I got this one looking decent:

I just havnt got they eye yet for the color ones yet. It will take a few more shoots in low winds and good lighting to get what Im looking for. I realy wanna try this before I leave Apr 9th. The rest of my year is pretty much planned out until I leave in December.
But yeah sorry for the OT. If you are doing an early sunrise or sunset photo shoot I would like to try a few shots arround your shooting.

With natural ligthing, you must really wait until the right time of day until the light is DIFFUSED, which is usually and sunrise and sunset, or on overcast days; otherwise, the light will be contrasty and harsh. But you might want a hard, harsh shadow. Really depends what you are trying to shoot, and how you want it lighted.
The winds you can get around by lugging a tripod or a monopod, or get Image Stabilized lenses, which I get when it's available in a given focal length.
I suggest you read a photography book to get useful tips before that trip. Oh, and at least get a flash.
Good luck man... maybe you can be the new photographer on these meets.

I'll be gone for the next 3 months and going through ALOT of interesting places in China. So predict alot of interesting pictures.
BTW something funny happened with my photomatix software. It stopped watermarking my pictures after the first 2 or 3 pictures and I still have the trial beta version.
