Default morning photoshoot

last photo shoot was good in my opinion. We got some nice shots in the parking structure. This time I figure we do it on a saturday morning somewhere out in the open( beach, look out points, etc.) Any ideas? I was also thinking, maybe this time after the individual shots are taken, maybe we could do a group shot.
Anybody have any inputs, such as dates or locations?

Jorge, just got a new lens... only can do Sunday mornings. I know this space near Makaha Beach. Or even Lanikai would be badass, but gotta watch out for the flying eggs.

Question... Guys with the higher end cameras, have you tried any HDR photo shoots. Doing HDR is fairly simple and straight forward with the right software and you get GREAT results.

It simply combines multiple photo's of difrent exposures of the EXACT same picture to make a High Dynamic Range photo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging

Here is an example of one I've done at Ka' Ena point this past weekend.

Combined through a program with a little tone adjustment:

I could have gotten better results if I wernt taking these at 2pm in harsh sunlight. But you get the jist. There is alot more dynamic resolution that makes the photo pop more. The edges are out of focus because I was using a wide angle adapter with a a 18-55mm macro lens.

EDIT: By no means am I an expert at this HDR thing. This is one of my first 3 attmepts at it. Its realy harder than it looks to get the shots right with the right lighting. There are some TRUELY amazing shots out there. The more exposures you have the more details you have. I've seen a few that have 7 exposures and you can see EVERY THING including the stars in the back ground on a fuly lit parking lot on a time exposure. Im still playing and learning the camera's function to get better shots. But I think the pillars in a parking garage on an HDR time exposure of a Z would look outstanding.

Mike, HDR is High Dynamic Range and just expands the range of the colors.

Yes, the proper way to do it is to auto bracket the shot whether it's +1/0/-1, or +2/0/-2 or even if you go 1/3 or 1/2 stops and combine them all. In the end though, the results IMO is close enough even if you take just a single RAW or JPG shot. I did one recently for Jorge and Brandon's cars... I took it off my hard drive and forgot to save them, but you just need to play with Photomatix a bit more to get the look you want. You can give a subtle HDR look, or you can go overboard, really depends on your taste.

Jorge, do you have the HDR of your car or Brandon's car? I took it down from Flickr and now it's gone from the hard drive. If so, can you post it for Mike. THX.

Yeah true the easiest way for the dynamic color is to bracket the exposures. You can do it to a standard photo with a good eye and practice and make it come out great. Just tried it with a b&w photo and it came out better than I thought.

Canon has an AEB feature that does it automaticly, but with a tripod its fairly easy to do it manualy to get more than the standard 3 exposures for more detail. Start at -2 take a picture then -1,0,+1, &+2. You can even get crazier by doing half steps but if your not shooting sunrise or sunset complex land scapes then you realy only want to go a Bracket of 5 at most.

I've seen a few detailed city ones with a bracket of 9. It was WICKED.

I'd like to shoot some HDR in the "Golden Hours" of the cars with decent back grounds becsides ocean to get a good color range. I need to keep practicing with the Photomatix or Photogenics trial that I downloaded. That point picture will never turn out good no matter how much practice or work I do on it. The winds were WAY too high and they were shot free hand, so they came out good all things considered.

What do you use for your HDR shots?
