I am so excited to be going, I cant wait, it is like a dream. I have been surfing for over 20 years now and to be moving to hawaii. I cant believe it. Now I am just wondering how long I will actually be there before I get sent over the pond to the dust bowl? Now that is the question of the year. No matter, when I return, I will coming back to hawaii. HELLS YES!

I will be in hawaii today. Is there anything going on this weekend with the club that I could attend to meet some of the guys, or maybe some sort of show?

What's the address where the meet is going to be so I can gps it. Also what is the meet going to be? I will be there, looking forward to meeting up with you guys.
I went exploring yesterday and I was driving on the mountain roads and wow, I cant wait to take the Z up there, all those turns. I am goin to have a blast almost as much fun as the dragon run in NC looks like, the view is certainly better.

Had a great time in HI, glad to meet some of you. I have another question about the recon. I definitely wont pass recon because of the no airbag and no cats.
Does anyone know how to get around this? I knew a guy in NC when I was stationed there, if you greased his palm he would hook you up with an inspection sticker. Claimed that the car was stock when he saw it and that I must of modded it after I left his shop. I would stand by that story if ever pulled over. Never was though.
Is the recon sticker the one that was on the back of everyone's bumper? If not where does the recon sticker go?
I also found out that I will be deploying to Afgan Jan 2011 so I will only get 9 months to enjoy hawaii, then i will be coming back. I am going to try and stay in hawaii after I get back, my luck though I doubt it will happen.

Hey man, glad to hear that u had a great time out here, it was def good to meet u.
As for passing recon, I have heard rumors that they are no longer doing the recon thing.... I do not know how true that is or can be though. There are some people out here where if u greese their palm u will pass, everyone has a price.
If u do need to get recon, I think that sticker goes on ur windshield, the one that u are talking about on the bumpers was their safety sticker, and then that one guy for having out of state plates. I hope that this answers ur questions bro
As for going to Afgan hahaha yea maybe I ll see u there, when I move to FT Carson we are supposed to deploy there too in 2011, so I guess we will see. I know thats what u were trying not to do, but hey its the Army and sometimes things dont work out like u expect them too.
K man take care

The recon sticker I believe, needs to go hand and hand next to your safety decal which is the one on your rear bumper (it looks like a safety check sticker, just with an "R" on it). I wanna "guesstimate" approx. 90-95% of modded cars don't have recon. Its stupid, rediculous and a waste of time - another way for the state to make more money off of us. There are a series of steps that you need to take in order to apply and test for one but its even harder when you fail. We do though, like everyone says, have a handful of locations that hand out safety checks when you're not in compliance, you can PM us when you move here.
I haven't heard any plans of getting rid of recon here in Hawaii, but they definitely made significant changes to it recently such as not needing recon for exhaust and rims. It seems, for the most part, that it pretains towards suspension (I could be wrong).

hmmm... i'll be heading to hawaii soon myself. i have a true coilover setup (stance GR+ & rear camber arms and toe arms) and i believe i will have constant headaches about all this "recon". hell, i don't even have a front license plate and an aftermarket steering wheel... not to mention the HFC x_x
i thought california was bad...
anyone have photos of that big sticker for out-of-state plates?

EDIT: also high flow cats won't make you fail recon, but test pipes will.

sweet, well all but the steering wheel, I am running stock suspension for now, I will keep it on until I do this recon thing, if I decide to go that route. Now if you dont pass, what happens? Do they report you or something?

cool, well i still have my stock steering wheel and i can put that back on with no problem... the only thing i was worried about was the HFC and suspension. guess i have to save up for some front arms and raise my car back up ::sigh::
great info!

if you've already got a valid safety when you go they just tell you why you failed and you can make a new appointment for to you come back after you've fixed it. if you don't have a valid safety you will typically be given papers saying you failed and on what date and you have x days to get it fixed or something like that in case you get pulled over.
