How strick are the police???
We're coming to Oahu and Maui tomorrow for 2 weeks and was wondering how strict to police are on speed limits. How fast over the limit can I go w/o getting stopped. I'm not a speed demon but do like to push the limits, but I may not in Hawaii just beause of the scenery. Unfortunately I won't have my Z but but will have the typical tourist car, a Sebring convertible.
Around here it seems the police are ticketing more lately, probably because of the economy. Never a shortage of traffic law breakers.
Also, we're going to the KCCN FM100 Birthday Bash Friday at the Wailkiki Shell. It sounds like fun. I'm listening to FM100 right now on my computer.
Any info is appreciated.

HPD is bull$h1t out here man...probably one of the worst places in the US as far as law enforcement is concerned. They'll ticket you for anything..especially the new hands-free law - you gotta wear a bluetooth if you plan to talk on the phone while driving regardless of what you're doing...I think its like $60-$80 per ticket if you're caught
If I were you, enjoy your stay here...there's no need to speed if you're on vacation. Speeding over 75mph will not only get you in trouble, but set you back thousands of dollars and possibly incarceration.
Enjoy your stay! haha

You wouldn't have to worry about the police being STRICT either way if you just keep it at the speed limit without "pushing the limits" while you are here. If I told you that it is ok to do 80 over, would that make it ok? Besides, the roads out here are shitty... Be safe and enjoy your stay.
haha yeah they new hands free law sucks but its a $62 ticket and its not a secondary offense they will pull u over. puls on ouah if you are out and about in the daytime your not going to be able to speed much as is becasue of the traffic.

A Sebring convertible? That's the #1 "I'm a tourist" car out here, so make sure you don't speed too much.
There are a few regular speed traps:
- H1 both ways near the airport.
- H1 East bound, right after the Stadium but before the airport
Here's a few tips on beating the traffic:
-Rush hour Town bound during 0600-0900
-Rush hour leaving town 3pm-7pm
- Going H1 east bound into town avoid hwy 78 (Moanula Freeway **I think**) continue on H1, get off at Nimitz and take that into Honolulu/Waikiki...much better than getting grid locked on hwy 78
-Get one of those rental GPS units, sometimes you can plan a route using side streets.
Have fun...don't get a DUI!

Saw a Nismo Z with a plate reading Nizmo over by Kapiolani Park Friday before the concert. Nice ride.
I just know even in Hawaii some people drive over the speed limit even if it's just a little.
We have more problems here than tourist like
-ice heads running around breaking into ****
-jackasses doing 45 on the left lane
-" " talking on the cell
-people not looking for bikes or worst seeing bikes and not giving a damn.
trust me the list can go on but oh well at least the scenery is beautiful.

Thanks for the info. We're in Honolulu now and having a good time. Went to FM 100's birthday bash Friday. We could do with a little less humidity and more trade winds tho.

We're back home and had a good time. I didn't go more than 10 mph over the speed limit except once down hill on H-2. Most of the time I kept it at the speed limit. I saw a motorcycle cop on H-1 radar gun a Mustang convertible (w/what looked like tourists) and stop them. Amazing how courteous you locals are there. Wish they were more like that here. I didn't see that many Z's there. Seemed like there were more G's, especially modded G's. I did see a silver Z with "see u labr" plates on Oahu.
Really enjoyed the plate lunches and shave ice. Probably won't be back till my neice graduates UH in a year or 2. Aloha and thanks for all the advice.

That's one thing you'll definitely notice about hawaii drivers...is how courteous and cool everyone is. A lot of the modded Z's don't daily drive but we do have quite a few that roll during the weekend. glad you had a good time bro...
