Default Anyone with legal front windshield tint?

I always thought it was illegal to have any sort of tint past the top 3-4 inches of your windshield but I heard somewhere it was legal now. So sure enough when I called Al's Tinting they have it at 80% for the entire windshield and totally legal. Anyone have this and can comment on how much heat it blocks out? I'm not interested in tinting the front for looks but more for comfort from the hot sun. I currently have 35% ceramic tint on all the windows and let me tell you they make a BIG difference in how hot it gets.

Thanks.

Yes I have it. It does make a difference with the air blue tint on. Technically the tint is optically clear, so it passes.

As for the function, I would say get it. It does help a lot in keeping the heat out of the car. The AC doesnt work as hard to cool of the interior.

It will also make your other tint look darker. Thats why a lot of people here do it.

edit: that being a front windshield tint thats actually tint not clear

blazed54 yes it is now legal to run tint on your front windshield below the AS1 line provided it doesn't exceed 70%. Even some of the LEO's down here don't know about this (in particular the Big Island).

I'm at about 73%-74% ceramic on my front. It's virtually impossible to tell you have tint on the front, but it makes a huge difference. I can tell big time when I'm driving with my windows down. My left arm can be cooking but anything exposed to the light coming through the front winshield has much less heat. I don't remember what the glass is at stock...........I want to say something like 80+%.

c0ld29 is correct in that the tint (at least the Air Blue) has a slight tint to it. It's hard to see, but you can tell if you have a light background and look out the side window & front at the same time.

Awesome and thanks for the replies. To Nexx I need it so I can hold onto my solid metal shift **** on the hot/sunny days I forget to put up my sun reflector. I swear there have been times my shift **** was so hot I would've branded the logo to my palm if I held it for too long haha anyone else like that?

+1. I've got the Nismo titanium ****, and I can't stand burning my hand on it. I might look into the front tint as well.

I would definitely tint my front windshield, but it still looks like it's illegal in Texas. Maybe it's changed, the the Texas DPS website on tint hasn't been updated since Sept 2009.

I wonder if polarized sunglass would put spots all over the windshield?

Surprisingly, the air blue tint doesnt show up spotty with polarized sunglasses on the front windshield. I use prescription sunglasses and I can see the spots on the sides...but the front...not too much. If you really look at an angle, then yes I can see them a little...but for the most part, nope dont see them.

I've got a question about this that I've never thought to ask anyone I knew with the front window tint.

Any state inspection sticky is put onto the front windshield and you have to use a scraper to remove it. Is the tint really strong enough to withstand a scraper coming at it at an angle to take off the inspection sticker? It seems like it would get damaged. Or do people just get it replaced EVERY year right before the inspection is due...

I know some states don't have inspection stickers but in the states that do.

Luckily/unluckily we don't have any stickers on our front window and no I don't think the tint could handle it.

For those states that run say insurance in the front windshields you can cut out a portion of the tint for the sticker.

Would agree. Its pretty much like any other tint film. If you stick another sticker on it...its going to cause some damage to the existing tint if you try to scrape of the overlaying one.

Agree with GZire....get them to cut an area out for that purpose.
