I haven't used the D50, but I am very pleased with the 350D. SLR vets say that the 350D is quite small in comparison to other SLR cameras, but being that it's my first [SLR], I'd say it's quite big. Try sites like photosig and do a search by camera to see shots taken by both cameras (this might help with your decision also).
Good luck!

Similarly to what yobri said, you can also check for photos from both cameras on sites like www.pbase.com
I just had to decide b/w Canon and Nikon for a digital SLR and went Canon (20D). Canon has alot of lense options available and seems to be a little ahead of the curve lately. My father has the Nikon D70 and I have not been impressed with it. All of his pictures have seemed soft to me, while the samples I have seen from users of the canons have really swayed me. The Canon's shots are incredibly sharp with beautiful color.
