Daddy's got a brand new toy!!!
I just got back after stopping by another shop since they didn't carry bags. Also got me a 2G CF & an extra battery.
Now as far as necessities. What else do I need?
- Tripod: Small & Compact
- UV Filter Lense Kit
- Lens Cleaning Kit
- Display Protection Lens
Any recommendations?
Man, I'm so stoked!!!

got mine for xmas from my gf...
got the silver xt,
bought the 7 year mack extd warranty 87 bucks
two tripods, one professional huge massive giant , and a mini 1 foot travel tripod which weighs like 1-2 lbs
canon xt weatherproof bag (awesome, took it to mammoth and no snow got in!)
extra canon-original battery (dont buy the cheap ebay knockoffs, they will die in 1 month)
uv filter & lens protector (<-comes with the canon orig bag, extremely useful)
sandisk 2gb ultra II cf (please dont buy the std cf cards, theyre slow as hell)
p.s. she (my gf) bought it for me from buydig.com... xmas time it was around 800$ no tax & free shipping... with a 75 mail in rebate which she just got...

But like you said, you can buy better lenses as you need them. The best part about Costco though is their return policy. If you break it, bring it back to them for a new one. If 2 yrs later you want a newer model, bring it back and get one.

If you can wait, get the 20D instead. 20D prices will drop further with the new release of the 30D. Drebel's are small to hold, slow to process RAW and will be akward if you eventually get a huge glass. Wether the Drebel or 20D, do not purchase the kit lens. Save yourself the extra money and get something decent. The 18-55kit lens is super soft at all focus points. I would recommend to start with the body only and get a 50 f/1.8 (portraits, indoors) then possibly add a 17-40L f/4 for your walk around lens.

I must disagree. The kit lens is super soft at all focal lengths. Probably stop down to f22 for a decent building shot, which while the contrast and saturation is very low.
Always recommend to start witht hte 50 f/1.8 then onto something better. Kit lens is not better than a paper weight.
