Recommend a digital camera for me.
I have a crappy Kodak C340 for the past couple of years and it sucks. I swear, this thing makes everyone look bad. I know models who look ugly with this damn thing. I bought it to take pictures of houses when I was trying to scout houses to be flipped. It takes good pictures of houses and bad pics of people. You can count every pore in a person's face. Blemishes that aren't even visible to the human eye are highlighted. If you have the smallest dimple or acne scar, the damn thing creates a lens flare on it. It makes all of the photos super dark. If you're black, it'll make you look like a shadow, or a at least a chocolate blob.
I bought it because it was on sale and had 5.1 mega pixels. I didn't know that how a camera processed the photo was so important at the time. Now I'm looking for something compact, with a good flash, and can capture lots of different color shades. I've seen some that can detect faces and autofocus. One with that feature would be nice too. I'm planning to mostly shoot photoes of people indoors, occasionally outdoors, and maybe shoot an indoor or outdoor car show. What is something that might fit me?

For a point & shot camera I think the Cannon SD700 IS - SD900 are a better choice. Altough the G7 is a better camera, you loose the compact advantage of a point & shot because the body is much larger. For that size you might as well spend a few hundred more and move to a full size SLR in the Digital Rebel XT or Rebel XTi.

Fuji makes some great cameras but they lack some manual features I prefer to have more control over that the cannon's provide. For somebody who just sits there and click in full auto mode, you really can't go wrong with either camera.

Check out the HP R967. It's got a built in photo lab so that you can do edits on the road with the camera and print straight off of the SD card. You can even make people look thinner than they really are. It's inexpensive, 10MP and has lots of manual controls for a point & shoot. I heard that the lenses are also made by Fuji.

overall how does it perform in terms of quality? I'm not liking how my point and shoot 550 is like... I have so little control over it, the optical zoom is only 3x, and the macro function, although nice is not close up enough for me.
but I'm just kinda scared that the g7 is too bulky for me...

but if you want to make photography as a hobby, i'd recommend you not to get this camera as you'd probably like the DSLR more and like to upgrade lenses...
i bought the g7 as my travel/daily use camera, but i'm looking forward to get a canon 30d just for a hobby
