My criticism: a little more humbleness goes a long way especially if you are a n00b at taking pictures. There are a lot of experienced photographers here.. This shot is not very hard to do--even with "manual" settings as you call it.. Your picture is not exactly revolutionary like you think it is.. it's been done before.. almost everything has been done before..
EDIT: and since you say this isn't some "random shot" ... so I assume a carefully staged photoshoot.. lets see some of the other photos you've taken from this set..

ur camera is still a DSLR camera, whether you put it on "manual mode" or not.
try doing it with an SLR camera. where everything is manaul. not digital.
digital helps the picture out
