Sony DSC-F717 - Recall
Let me tell you a little story about a sony camera I once bought.

So I have the above camera. I bought it back in '03. It sure was a nice camera back then(I have an xti now). I babied the thing. I never really took it anywhere. It was never dropped or exposed to a harsh environment. One day about a year and a half later it stopped working for apparently no reason. The LCD worked and you could see the menus, but when you took a picture it was solid black. Unfortunately the CCD bit the bullet. I looked on the internet to see what I could find and couldn't find anything about the problem. So I tossed it on the shelf and forgot about it... (and swore I would never buy a sony camera again). so anyway out of the blue the other day i decided to do a websearch for "sony f717 recall" and the first hit got me linked to sonys site and setup with the recall information.... apparently there is a known issue with the CCD's in these cameras and sony is fessing up and fixing it... they are going to fix it for free (5 years after the fact, needless to say I was shocked, but I think they definitely owe it to me... it was an expensive camera that I barely got to use). They emailed me a shipping label and the camera is boxed up and ready to go. I'll be shipping it off tomorrow morning. I guess you could say this is sonys chance to redeem themselves.
We shall see!

So 9 days later I get my camera back. I'm still impressed how easy and seamless the repair process was. I went to the website, filled out a form, they emailed me a label, I boxed it up and dropped it off. Now I have my camera back and surprisingly enough it works. Didn't pay a dime. It doesn't seem as solid as it used to be (basically feels exactly like it's been taken apart).... but it works damnit!

Today is a good day.

I think I remember why I liked this camera so much. Taking macros with it is fun and easy... min focal distance is like 2mm..... you have to get creative with your light when you're that close... seeing the changes on the lcd before you take the picture helps too.....

100% crop.

100% crop.
that's just the way the flowers look.... edited to resize.... they make great subjects when they bloom..... pics were taken in early morning sunrise... plant is called "grandmas purple flag".
