Yes, another one of them "post your" threads...

Was dying to scratch an itch I've had for the longest... wanting to try the misty water effect on the rocky shoreline pictures that you probably have seen tons of times.

Will have to go back to refine some stuff...

The Best one... out of over 150 shots. All shots taken with Canon 40D with Sigma 10-20mm with 3 stop Neutral Density Filter (damn filter costs as much as some lenses).

The rest of the ones that came out pretty good.

Wish I had my 55-250 for these shots...

Wow...I wish I had your kind of skills and camera. The last picture is really nice, with the sun in the distance and stuff. Thanks for the new background!

DAMN! Shot of a lifetime if I was to have taken it... with film no less. I don't think I could ever shoot with film as I need the safety net of viewing the exposure right after the shot.

Thanks for the compliment! Shooting this kind of shot isn't as difficult as you think. It's all how you meter the shot. For this shot, I aimed my camera so that the sun wasn't in the picture, noted the settings, locked them in, reframed and shot the pic.

Today I have a digital camera and I'm forever looking at the LCD after I take a shot rather than trusting my experience.

Yes, I've read tons of books and info on shooting sunsets. It's all about metering for any shot... but other folks who are reading this and beginning, yes, meter your shots with the sun in frame without the sun in the frame... or meter without the sun in the viewer, then recompose... or else the metering will be off, and the pic will be too dark, cause the camera's metering is going to compensate for the bright sun and darken the overall pic.

You can meter with the sun in the frame if you're shooting with a wide angle lens and the sun itself is quite small. Otherwise, meter with the sun just out of the frame to determine the correct exposure.

Of course with digital you can simply check the histogram. The sun will spike the right side but the rest of the historgram should be in the middle or slightly to the left.
